What a way to be greeted when entering. Lots of staff and owner giving a warm welcome. Make sure to make reservations in advance. We got lucky to get in same day.
Food was great. Service was excellent. Steaks were perfect. Dry aged ribeye was the most flavorful steak I’ve ever had. I’ve had dessert tray presentations but not a steak cut presentation.
Highly recommend.
By Andrew Reese (a year ago)Halls Chophouse had not only exceptional food, but also gave an exceptional experience. First off, reservations seem to be a MUST! I booked about a month in advance and my options were 1600 or 2200. Upon getting there, everyone was so welcoming and asked if we were celebrating anything, which we were for our anniversary before my husband deployed. Once we were seated, we were given complimentary glasses of champagne and got the full run down of meats, their quality, and specials for the night. The food was spectacular. Especially walking around all day, it hit the spot, and the portions are perfect! Towards the end, Billy the owner, came by and had the sweetest conversation with us, bringing more complimentary champagne and also paid for our dessert. He was the sweetest and his staff clearly think highly of him, as do we. We could not have asked for a better dinner and for better service! Everything was beyond exceptional and we look forward to going back soon!By Sophie E. (6 months ago)Absolutely amazing! Even better than amazing. My boyfriend and I are on vacation in Charleston and we both agree we have never experienced EVER, the front of house and back of house service being so outstanding. From the moment we walked in the Maitre d’ greeted us with a smile and enthusiasm you do not see often when being greeted; she thoroughly enjoys her job. We had a 10pm reservation (the only reservation we could make for the week we were here because they were booked) and we showed up 30min early and they got us in right away. Jordan was our server and for all the years I’ve worked in the restaurant industry and owned a restaurant, she was the best server I have ever seen. Knowledgeable, happy, and attentive (I went to CIA and have worked with many people she is the best of the absolute best, keep her). From the greeting, to the service our drinks were the best we have had so far in Charleston, and then the food. You can tell that whoever is cooking the food truly loves what they do and care about the quality of dishes. If I could give this 10/10 stars I would and so would Eric. Thank you for a not just a culinary experience with food but also with your serviceBy Alexandra Ruddy (3 weeks ago)I went to Halls for my anniversary. I was early for my reservation and despite being very busy, I was quickly accommodated. The manager was fantastic and toasted our anniversary. The wait staff was very attentive and very knowledgeable. The waiter answered all our questions and made some very fantastic recommendations. The food was fantastic. The food is expensive, but it is worth every single penny. The value is there for the price. The meal was overall fantastic and so was the service. Do your mouth a favor and eat hereBy David Chudd (11 months ago)Walked in to Halls Chophouse to the greeting of Mr. Hall and the Sunday Brunch Gospel Choir. This is high on the must-do in Charleston. Brunch recommendations below in stack ranked order of best dishes:1a) French Toast (if your preference is sweet, this is wonderful and our family favorite)
1b) Shrimp & Grits (if your preference is savory, this shrimp & grits is fabulous)
3) Traditional Eggs Benedict
4) Prime Rib Egg Benedict
5) Sweet Potato PancakesWished we would have tried the Crab Benedict. Really wish we would have tried the steak sandwich. The bacon that came with the French Toast and Pancakes was amazing. The She-Crab Soup was full of flavor, and the popovers were hot and steamy as you opened them.
Be aware, you pay for your fountain drink by the glass. 2 glasses of Coke Zero for $8 seemed steep. The service though is as good as the food and traditional Southern hospitality is on full display.

Love this place. Seems to be very popular for both tourists and locals. We came here early so were seated very quickly, but if you come in later, there will be a wait as this is a popular breakfast place. We ordered an omelette and a low country shrimp and grits. I mostly ate the low country shrimp and grits and it is very good. Super tasty. Slightly on the salty side but the mix of grits and the seasoning on the vegetables and shrimps is fantastic. Also portion is huge for breakfast. You can make it even bigger by adding biscuits to the order but I can’t imagine I would be able to finish it. We also ordered some lattes but those are ok. Nothing to highlight. Overall I had a great breakfast here and would highly recommend as a solid tourist choice in the area.By Wuji Fei (a year ago)Unfortunately, this spot did not live up to the hype. I got the chicken and waffle and was disappointed. I would see this is my least favorite chicken and waffle I’ve ever had. The chicken was barely seasoned, chewy, no honey, no butter. Not hot. My wife had the French toast. She felt this was straight out of a frozen bag and warmed up. My son got the Single Deluxe French Toast. I tried some and thought it was ok. The location was not super clean. The waitress was friendly, but I could tell she was new. I did like the corn beef hash. My son loved his omelet with steak. The fresh orange juice was also good.By Stephen Higgins (a year ago)Late morning breakfast finds us deep into Charleston for our first meal of the day. Easily parked on the street about 50 yards from the restaurant. Wednesday no crowds. Sat immediately. Wait staff was very pleasant. Coffee was tasty. Table for 2. Very low key chill place with Cafe style. Ordered the crab cakes with poached egg and I wasn’t disappointed! It was probably the best crab cake I’ve had in a while! I would order that again just to see if that was a hoax or the real deal. Totally caught off my guard by how good that was. Will do it again next time I visit. Highly recommend.By Jeff Wilkie (2 weeks ago)Had a chance to have lunch at the Meeting Street location. It was a great experience. The staff was friendly, especially Scotty who was amazing, friendly and had a great sense of humor. He definitely made a difference in our experience. For the food, kids had flat iron pancakes which were good but not the best. I had Philly Steak Biscuit and the freshly made biscuit was a good size and very flavorful. The best part was the Deluxe Stuffed (with fresh peaches) French Toast. It was very delicious and perfectly made. There was a choice of a single or a double deluxe stuffed French toast and glad that we ordered only the single as it was a very decent size. Double would have been very hard to finish. The only minus point is that the place could be a little bit more cleaner. Definitely will return the next time we visit Charleston.By Zaheed Deshmukh (a month ago)The shrimp and grits was good but could have used a bit for salt to my liking. I enjoyed the freshness of the tomatoes on top. Customer service was great, environment was nice, and overall clean. My husband enjoyed his chicken and waffles.
Side note: I tried to eat all of my grits and barely did so. The portion was well worth the price. Will definitely return!

My husband and I had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and had a great experience. The wait was short and the service was excellent. All the staff we encountered were kind and pleasant. We sat on the front porch and enjoyed the views of Charleston in perfect weather.
They serve complimentary cornbread and honey butter to start ????. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and my husband got fried catfish. Both were fresh with the perfect crispy texture. The flavors were yummy and balanced well. The fries were also perfect and crispy/soft. I ordered a lavender martini which was delicious. You can really taste the vanilla vodka, which I loved. We would definitely go back! It was good vibes all around.
By Sarah Le (10 months ago)Above average brunch – but it didn’t blow my socks off.
The pimento cheese fritters with bacon jam were the first thing we ate. These were my favorite thing we had. The fritters were fried well and the pimento cheese on the inside was perfectly melted. The bacon jam was outstanding. I’d never had bacon jam before but I knew Poogan’s porch was well known for their bacon jam and it was delicious. The texture was great – small bits of bacon with some sort of jam. It was perfectly flavorful and an excellent complement to the fritters. The complementary biscuits were good but not great. I’d say they were pretty average for biscuits. They felt a little too dense in my opinion.
The main entree I had was the chicken fried pork chop. I thought the chicken fried pork chop was fried pretty well and I liked the texture and gravy on top.
The grits served with the dish were good in my opinion but I am not a grits expert so I have minimal experience to compare this to.The service was fine. A little slow but they took care of us fine.
By Ellen Morris (4 months ago)Had a wonderful lunch here this past Sunday! The restaurant has a small cozy homey cute vibe. There seemed to be a wait when we got there so this must be the happening spot for brunch. The Fried Green Tomatoes was a great appetizer—the bacon jam for the dip was so delicious! Really enjoyed the Shrimp & Grits (with poached egg for $2.50) and Country Fried Chicken—both huge portions and very tasty! Our cocktails were great as well!
By Vy H. (7 months ago)We had an excellent experience here! We made a reservation which proved to be necessary as they were turning away walk ins. The setting was nice and clean, just slightly cramped but to be expected in historic Charleston. The pimento cheese fritters were a perfect appetizer. Very creamy and flavorful (a nice change for this cheese stick loving girl). I had the chicken and waffles and it’s no exaggeration when I say the BEST ever. Our server was fantastic, attentive and prompt and everything was spot on. We’d definitely visit here again.By Rebecca Sophia (7 months ago)This place is absolutely amazing! The food is fresh and full of flavor, menu variety is just right and the staff is very attentive. I would recommend making a reservation as space is limited. Their outdoor seating is dog friendly and they will treat your four legged friend just as well as you! Amazing place, and a must stop when in Charleston! You will enjoy anything off the menu here!By Ryan Longe (6 months ago)

I was very hyped about dining at this establishment. We got here a bit early and had to wait. We were suggested to visit their bar which didn’t disappoint: their drinks were great! When we made it to our table we were shortly greeted by our server. He was fun, pleasant, and knowledgeable of the menu. The food came out fast and was delicious. The dessert was lovely and Husk’s suggested wine pairings for it were on point. We’ll definitely be coming back.By Maxim Tyutyunnikov (5 months ago)Came for a dinner, have to have a reservation. The building is really beautiful from the outside, but we were surprised to see that the inside doesn’t match, really bare and plain.
The food however is really good! The chicken starter is great and juicy, the devilled cheese was a nice take too.
Had the flounder and the strip loin for mains and were very happy with them. The chocolate cake was delicious too.
Service is very kind and professional and the wine menu is decent.By Ido Naim (a year ago)Great overall dining experience. Reservations required with every table filled. Service and food were phenomenal. For starters, the oysters and blue crab salad stood out as table favorites. Cheese plate was also exceptional. For the main, I ordered the SC snapper, which was perfect in terms of flavor and texture. The fish had a nice crunch, and was cooked to perfection. The Husk bar next-door had a very cool vibe as we waited before our meal.By Oliver (3 months ago)This was our fourth visit to Husk. Each time we have visitors in town, we try to go here. It was a lovely meal, as always! The highlights for me this meal were the peach and tomato salad, the red snapper, and the steak. The lady bug drink was prettier than it was tasty, but the old fashioned (not pictured) was solid. Our friend’s pork entree (not pictured) was overcooked with little to no taste, so the waiter replaced it with the steak. This was the second time we’ve been disappointed with a pork entree here, but we appreciate that the waiter made it right. We had peach beignets for dessert (not pictured), which were delicious but quite heavy. On a note unrelated to food, now that we have a baby, we’ve discovered that many restaurants downtown are not baby friendly. I know you must be thinking, “Why would they bring a baby to Husk??” As someone who is still breastfeeding, I cannot make it through a 2-3 hour dinner without dealing with “that issue.” Also, I believe in normalizing bringing well-behaved babies and children to enjoy grownup outings. I only bring this up to say that Husk does not have slings for a baby’s car seat, nor do they have a changing station for babies in the downstairs restroom. Thus, my removal of one star.
Overall, it was still a great experience as always!
By Kristin Kee (5 months ago)We heard many good things about Husk and wanted to try it ourselves. We couldn’t get a reservation so put our name on the list 15 minutes before they started service and it only took 25 minutes to be seated. We had some delicious cocktails in their bar while we waited. The dinner was incredible, especially knowing it was all made with local ingredients. Husk is a fantastic and unique way to experience southern cuisine and I think it’s a must-visit place while in Charleston.By Per Sveen (a year ago)

If you’re in Charleston I highly recommend going to Church and Union! First of the inside is a masterpiece of art and absolutely beautiful. The entire book “The Art of War” is hand painted on the ceiling and throughout the restaurant. I’m a visual artist and I was really appreciate the time and effort it took to create the artwork. The services was outstanding and the staff was excellent. Now on to the food which was very delicious. We had raw oysters for an appetizer and they were perfect. Our main course dinners were excellent as well. This is a restaurant I would absolutely go to again and I personally think it’s a must see even if you just want to grab a drink at the bar. Oh I almost forgot to mention my wife and I went there for our anniversary and the waitress gave us a dessert on the house which was also very good. Thank you for an all around perfect evening and wonderful anniversary dinner Church and Union. You and your team are top-notch and I can’t speak highly enough about how much my wife and I enjoyed our experience there. Next time we visit Charleston this restaurant is number one on our list!By Jonathan Keller (7 months ago)This place is wonderful! My family has reservations for the prefixed Thanksgiving meal. We had a variety of dishes between us all and everything was made to perfection. The music chill yet fun. Makes you singalong between bites. The decor is awesome. Jeffrey K was our server and was very attentive and helpful. Will definitely visit again.By Shaneka Brown (a month ago)The Church and Union what a cool place. The history and interesting decor are a piece of art alone.
We visited on a culinary tour so we only sampled a couple dishes. We had the Japanese chicken that was breaded, fried and drizzled with an eel sauce and spicy mayo. Very good.
Next we tasted a burger, the name escapes me, but it was very good. The burger was topped with cheese and grilled onions. The meat was tender and juicy. The onions seemed to melt as you are the sandwich. All held together with a sesame seed bun. Very tasty.
Lastly, this place is such an interesting atmosphere and story behind the restaurant I recommend swinging by for a drink or snack just to see the inside. You will be amazed.
By Cory Yokel (a month ago)Amazing experience. Thought it would be over hyped but it wasn’t. It really is as good as its reputation. The restaurant interior is stunningly beautiful and the food was superb. Quantities were more than ample so you might want to be careful ordering. Tables were small so getting everything on the table was difficult. Enjoyed it immensely. Definitely recommend you to get a reservation as it is not easy to get in.By Eric Thomas (5 months ago)What a beautiful and unique spot! Definitely takes your breath away once you enter the main dining room, just wow!Came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night, the place was still lively and almost all tables were occupied. After a drink at the bar we moved to our table. Ordered from a restaurant week prix-fixe menu ($40) and pasta a la carte. The food came out pretty fast, it was just okay, the portions were definitely downsized. I didn’t feel like I dined at a restaurant, it had more of a lounge vibe that had some food options. We didn’t get bread, salt/ pepper at a table, dishes were brought out before we finished previous course. Service was a little disappointing.
I’d give it another try and come here for drinks next time I’m in Charleston, the ambiance is worth it! But food-wise I’d pick a different place.
