When I went to the store, I noticed two things, first, the shelves were properly “leveled” and organized, which conveys that the employees care about the store. Second, I noticed that stock levels were at a basic level. I mentioned to the clerk that it looked like they were getting ready for their yearly inventory. Unfortunately, she was not available and I made the mistake of entrusting just anyone. When I picked Stella up, her beautiful long hair had been shaved to 1/4″. I did not see Stella’s horrible and unevenly cut hair until after I paid the bill of $60-odd dollars. Management was very apologetic and gave me a $75 gift card for this “mishap.” Ask for Huey if your dog requires hair cutting.By Stacy Fox (4 weeks ago)Manager was extremely rude. My father pasted away. I am foster his dog and this woman had to audacity to tell me “dogs do that” when I showed her the destroyed toy. The dog is only 30 pounds. It’s not my fault it was a defective product(I thought). But as stated on the packaging (I noticed later) it was for puppies, so clearly she was very unknowledgeable of their inventory. I was distraught when I was in the store the first time trying to find toys for the dog , that’s why I returned it. NOT because dogs do that but because it was a toy designed for puppies. Please familiarize yourself with your products before being rude. It’s not my fault you have no clue what’s in your store. - Reviews:I don’t know much about fish but you don’t have to when the store you go to has employees that are helpful and knowledgeable. You just need to ask questions. It takes 45 minutes to drive here from our house and it’s worth it to go here rather than PetSmart or one of the other large stores who are understaffed and overpriced. Like some of the other reviews said it is true that the store could use some tidying up. But that becomes easily overlooked thanks to the good service provided by the employees. Not to mention there is a huge selection of fish. If you can’t find when you’re looking for they can probably get it for you. Definitely worth the drive. Newer employees are not knowledgeable so make sure to get the gentlemen who is super helpful. We bought my daughters first ball python from there for her Christmas present, then we bought a giant hairy desert scorpion 3 week later, we bought an albino ball python from there within the last month and on Saturday we bought a bearded dragon. None of them had mites, they’re all 100% healthy. The snakes have had no issues eating and are thriving. We enjoy going to ricks. The employees are all knowledgeable, and find a way to connect with the customers. There’s a young girl that works there that my daughter absolutely loves because she likes reptiles and cosplay just like her. Some of the lower reviews posted seem kind of petty. Rick does what he can with a small space. He makes it work. I like the small cozy feeling. Keep doing what y’all do. I’ll see you Friday!!By Nikki Grimes (4 years ago)Have been here many times since the 90s. Back when we had a macaw and double yellow headed Amazon parrot. Years later it was the spot for our tarantulas, snakes, reptiles, and sugar gliders. Now it’s a great place for the occasional rat toy or treat. It’s a little cramped as it’s a small space with a lot going on, but it’s never people crowded. The fish area is super peaceful. Makes up for the slight claustrophobic store. I love there is no loud music or ultra bright overhead lights. The employees are helpful but not in your face, pushy, or trying to talk or sell your ear off. As social anxiety goes it’s hard to voice to some salespeople that “I’m not being rude, I just have a hard time talking to people.” I’ve never had that issue here. The prices for what we buy are reasonable. Even if you don’t need anything, if you are eating at the Chinese place or Little Caesars you should stop in to see all the cute animals, birds, and amazing fish. The prices are great. Alot of clearance and discounted items. Best place to get a wide selection of good stuff to feed ur fur babies. the petco brand litter is awesome too! Great price and it really clumps and has little to no dust. Prices for some things are very high though compared to Walmart. But you get what you pay for. They didn’t have many animals for sale unfortunately but that can be a good thing because I have no business getting more! Lol check this place out for sure.
I spend $100+ per week here (mostly in the fish dept.) and can say they have the most amazing and knowledgeable team at the Frederick location. Customer service and help with any issues (fish-wise) has been amazing. Really good online prices too;)
Store itself is okay but they sold me on Petco’s paid discount plan known as vitalcare premier. They assured me I could cancel at any time which is not true as you are locked in for an entire year. The customer care didn’t even address my grievance and dismissed my concerns immediately.
You have to spend $600 a year on the limited amount of products that would be covered just to break even. I’m taking all my business elsewhere as I don’t appreciate the bait and switch approach and pushy sales at a cash register hoping you’ll miss some of the small print.
Customer Support staff at counter, as well as Petco’s Vetco vet are all friendly and provide service with a smile. I also appreciate Petco’s selection of toys and dog clothing.
Save the headache and dont order script dog food from them on line, Three times in a row had damaged cans I couldn’t use. Had black mold. Most stores don’t sell prescription food so had no choice in trying it again.
