What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. First time coming here, and I had a stellar experience. The skewers were awesome, korokke was everything I expected from a meatless potato ball, and the alcohol was not expensive for a dine-in place. The interior is wonderfully decorated too, a really nice vibe on the inside. Get here early in the evening if you can! We got here at 5 and were sat in about 15 minutes. By the time we were done there was a long line outside.

  2. I recently visited this Honda-Ya and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! The speedy service on a weekday was really impressive – we were in and out in no time. On the weekends, the wait can get quite long, so I definitely recommend coming on a weekday if possible.

The food was simply delicious! We started off with the recommended Dan Dan noodles, and I have to say, the flavor was out of this world. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce had just the right amount of spice. My boyfriend got his usual order of yakisoba, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were rich and savory, and the noodles were perfectly cooked.

We couldn’t leave without trying a few skewers, and they did not disappoint either. They were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of char on the outside and juicy on the inside. They were so good, I forgot to get a pic when they came out.

Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Japanese cuisine. The food is top-notch and the speedy service on a weekday is really impressive. Just be prepared for a longer wait on the weekends. I give this restaurant a 5-star rating and will definitely be returning!

  3. Always a great time at Honda-Ya. Perfect for date night or getting together with friends for some great Japanese eats and beer/sake. Parking can be a bit crowded, but it’s a large parking lot. Recommend getting there early because there’s usually a wait due to its long time popularity. For people with purses, bring a purse valet because there’s no where to put it. You can order drinks and food while you wait outside which is pretty cool. Menu is huge with just about something for everyone.

  4. Do you really need me to tell you how good the food is over here? Just look at the line!

The advise when coming to this place: get here earlier than your intended meal time, register on the waitlist, grab a switch and get back into your car.

Food here is extremely affordable at the deliciousness that it offers is crazy.

My girlfriend says they’re a charity.

And just to be clear, they’re not “pretty good for this price range” they’re, “this is so good, wait, you said the yakitori is $3??”

Like honestly if they charges more I wouldn’t be mad because they’re so good.

  5. Honda-Ya is the most authentic izakaya style you can find in Orange County/ Los Angeles. You feel the izakaya vibe by the decorations and the food. There is always a line so better to plan ahead. Everything you order is small so don’t be surprised. The udon/soba are not very tasty so you should avoid it. I would prioritize to eat the bbq, some egg soup and sushis. They have a few options for vegan/vegetarian. Our waitress Rina was very attentive, friendly and efficient. If you want to experience the izakaya dining without going to Japan. Just get here !

First impression, the place was packed on a Saturday night. Menu are scanned on the table, the guys do some around to get your order. We got mild for most of our dishes. The numbing chilies did it’s job. We really liked the beef noodle casserole and spicy wontons. The lamb mutton dish was good, since it’s mutton, the meat is not as tender. Overall we enjoyed all the dishes. Three dishes plus a beer. Total was about $40 per person.

The food was unexpectedly good. But, we received the rice at the last lolz. Also, they kept missing our beverages. We understand that the busyness is why it occurs. The waiters weren’t particularly friendly and attentive. Other than that, the food was fantastic and well worth the 45-minute wait.

Super delicious! Plenty of parking nearby, arrived at 2pm and the queue didn’t take long. Sliced Pork in Minced and Qiaojiao Leshan Beef com are FIVE STAR recommendations! The Tea Smoked Pork Rib tasted a little bland.

The flavor deserve a 4.5 star. We ordered five dim sums, three salty dishes, three buns, all between good and exceptional. The honey brown sugar cake was an unexpected surprise, good and unique. The buns were well made crispy and flavoury. The price is decent, standard good quality dim sum price. Although service is poor because they are usually too busy.

The service inside the private room was excellent. I didn’t even have to stand up to pour wine or get food. It was all done by staff. Our group ordered geoduck clams, Alaskan king crab, and Peking duck… Everything was delicious. Seafood was very fresh but it does not come cheap. Be prepared to bring your credit card.

Extremely disappointed. We had a reservation for 7:30pm. Did not get seated until 8:15. Then food was not out until 9:30… are you serious?? I get that it’s lunar new year but I thought service would be better especially when the person on the phone who I made the the reservation for said “we want to take your order ahead of time to avoid any delays on the actual day”. Despite this message, we still waited a good hour and a half past our reservation for food to come out. That’s not to mention my constant reminder to the waiter asking for where the food was. I would ask once, two dishes come out, then we wait another hour, ask again, two more come out. At the end of the night, we just couldn’t wait anymore. We cut the bill and just paid for what was brought out and cancelled the rest. As an “apology”, they gave us complimentary sesame balls which the waiter claims are “very famous and delicious”. They are not. They are over fried and tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for hours. The fish was also very tiny for the size of the plate. By the way, this tiny fish costed $137…. The pork belly was all fat and no meat. The duck was too oily and not even hot. The tea was probably the best thing I had that night, which by the way they took away when I asked for a refill. To be waiting this long for food that looks and tastes like what I can order from a fast food wok place, it is not worth it and I’d rather go to even Panda Express then try this place again even on a regular non-holiday. Showing this display of service tells me even on a regular day, I would be getting the same type of service. The BUS BOY gave GREAT service. He was attentive to us and even tapped on the waiter for us. The bus boy deserves a promotion. He was a better waiter than anyone here. Will not be recommending this to anyone.

I am an avid fan of Dim Sum and usually eat at restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley and Chinatown. Today I traveled to Tustin after being told this restaurant’s dim sum is superior to most. That was a huge understatement. From the perfectly prepared har gow to the wrapped pork and delicate pork filled pastry, the food was excellent in flavor and consistency. The noodles were not too thick and steamed and cooked on point. The meats were grizzle free and immensely flavorful. My favorite was the pork filled rice noodle and tripe though my least favorite was the baked bao albeit it was still quite good. Aesthetically, the interior decor is beautiful. I highly recommend J Zhou for a superior eating experience.

The restaurant feels very grand and the service was good. It isn’t the greatest but they were attentive. As for pricing, it’s a fancy Chinese restaurant so don’t step in here unless you are ready to spend. Yes the price is quite ridiculous as the quality of food is decent at best. I don’t think I will be coming back but feel that the reviews here r a bit harsh. So I would give it an overall 4 star when it’s really 3.5 stars
