- Reviews:My son has been attending virtually then in person since he turned three 8 months ago. We’ve had such a positive experience. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure the kids are engaged and learning at their own levels. It’s very apparent that they care about every student. You can immediately tell how important a friendly atmosphere is to everyone (attending families too!) that walls through the door. I recently started attending classes as well and was very impressed with the attention paid to making sure everyone was able to participate at their own skill level. In the past, I’ve attended numerous other fitness classes and this was the friendliest and most personalized experience I’ve ever had. Finally, it goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway), the instructor and assistants are highly skilled in all the areas they teach and dedicated to their students. - Reviews:I have worked as an LEO for approximately 1 year. During the academy, I began considering martial arts. As I graduated the academy, I knew it was time to choose a school. KSK stuck out because of Guru Kent’s work with the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. I decided to try KSK and knew I made the right decision when I took my trial class. Guru Kent is very knowledgeable and passionate in his trade. The classes are well planned and they are fun. Guru Kent has several associate instructors, so there is never a time where we do not have someone at the school to teach class. Guru Kent teaches five main areas in class, striking, clinching, trapping, manipulation and grappling. While all five are important, I can recall several times where clinching has been a necessity in my field. Without my training at KSK, I would not have known how to react when the opportunity presented itself. Even though as a young woman I was often in the minority (most of the members are men), I always felt very welcome and safe. Everyone who trains at KSK is welcoming and supportive of each other member. Guro Kent, the main instructor at KSK, especially makes sure all members and visitors alike feel welcome, learn real, applicable self-defense techniques, and have a great time. I would definitely recommend this training studio to anyone looking to learn real self-defense techniques or just meet some truly awesome and fun people. I trained in a variety of arts in my 20s and early 30s and am having a blast! IMO kali is an immediately applicable art, its foundation emphasizes simple body mechanics applied to non specific weapons and open hand techniques. The bonus has been the time I spend with my 17 year old son. The instructors and students are truly welcoming. From the moment I walked into KSK I felt welcomed and safe! I have been at KSK for about a year now and I have never felt unsafe while training. It was never my plan to be here this long, I just wanted to learn a few self defense moves and then be on my way. But life has a way of turning your course and I found myself not only loving the training, but becoming a part of a new family. I have never been made fun of or put down if I am not at a set level or if I am struggling with a new skill. The instructors are patient and help you fit the new skill to your abilities. One of the things I love the most about KSK is that everyone there really and truly cares for one another. Guro Kent has been amazing and cares about you as a person and not just when you step onto the mats. I am a new addition to the Chung’s Taekwondo family, and I am so happy that I joined. The adult classes are a great workout and Master Chung is an amazing instructor for all skill levels and ages. He has a very positive and supportive demeanor while also helping students grow in the Taekwondo tenants of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Even when not actively training, I love watching Master Chung Teach; he gives tailored instruction to each of his students, and loves to help each of us. And he is a joy to watch teaching kids! He is great with them!
I recently joined Master Chung’s kickboxing class and love it! Master Chung is kind and a wonderful teacher. He also pushes you in a positive way to do your best and try new things. He has been very innovative with online and in-person classes and ways to still workout despite the pandemic. He really wants each student to succeed and is a positive role model for kids and adults. I am very glad I joined!
My child has an endless energy supply with a backup generator; with that, the attention of a goldfish. I was also nervous as she’s never been in any kind of formal class setting. Master Chung assured us I didn’t need to be nervous that she wasn’t ready. It’s been 5 months. She has more respect for others and her listening skills are waaaaaayy better. You also don’t get the feeling here that your kids are a number. Master Chung knows each student and parent. He shows both parents and students the same respect. He’s firm, he doesn’t “play” but he let’s the kids know they matter to him/ he cares.
I beyond recommend his dojang. I’m excited to see my daughter continue to grow with his program.
Master Chung’s Taekwondo school is fantastic. I’d been looking for a place to get back into martial arts because I missed the physical activity and needed to back into shape. But with Covid there were obviously safety concerns and I didn’t know if it was even possible to find somewhere that had decent safety measures. But I was blown away by how well Master Chung’s school handled the Covid precautions, everyone gets their temperature taken at the door then sanitizes their hands and feet before stepping onto the mat and everyone wears Kn95s. So you do feel safe practicing at master Chung’s.
The workouts themselves will push you to your limits, in a good way, the other students are very welcoming, every practice session is a little different so it doesn’t feel monotonous when you’re there. Master Chung manages to balance instilling discipline and focus within his students, with a sense of humor. I’ve been to a few different martial arts schools and sometimes you can get a superficial feel from the school and the master, but master Chung is definitely not that. When you watch him demonstrate a move or something it’s clear that he’s been practicing everyday, for years and that’s encouraging. I can’t say enough good things about the school and master Chung.
Master Chung is a funny and skilled instructor. He is very passionate about class and has a range of students who are at different levels and belts.
I also really found a great community here with a diverse class, really cool black belts who support you ! (shoutout to Mariah ).
