- Reviews:After a very bad experience at this store with the manager, I will not be going back. it’s hard enough being a mom of 2 under 2.. shame on this woman for personally verbally attacking me and my childeren and trying to force us to leave while already in line to check out and publicly embarrassing me in front of my friends and other customers. Childeren as young as mine do not fully understand they have to be good everywhere we go. My child wasn’t perfect in the store, but we were there to get diapers, and laundry soap. So this was a necessary trip on my only day off. we do the best we can as mothers. Understanding and compassion would go a long way.By MelO (3 months ago)Wow a successful business that won’t succeed because they don’t hire anyone Closes at 4 now prices going up but still not offering enough to keep a staff.By Dustin Moran (8 months ago)Why is this store closed more than it is open????? Perhaps if you paid your staff more you wouldn’t have trouble keeping open. Dollar Tree and Family Dollar are always open.By Mark & Evie Patterson (2 months ago)Love the location on W12th. The staff they have now r amazing (4/2018) just have to watch costs….hyvee carries many items for cheaper…. but if you pay attention 20$ can feed a 3 person family fer a few daysBy Kell Niesen (5 years ago)This was my store of choice as far as Dollar General in the area. Not anymore. Store hours are now 8am-2pm. Not even open 8 hours. Thought about applying for stocking there, as they obviously need the help. Since I do not want to cashier (spend more time walking back and forth between register and stocking), I was told “Sorry, we need employees who can do everything.”By Jeffrey Jensen (7 months ago)

I went in for scotch tape and came out with much more. I love this store. The man who checked me out was so nice and happy. I could tell he enjoyed his job and cared about his customer. I love searching their reduced merchandise, great finds and deals.
Asked for one of the 200+ broken down cardboard boxes in the store. They didn’t sell any in the store but the guy working (looked like a shift manager) gave me a round about no. He couldn’t flat out say no even. He said he would but I should go to hyvee and get one instead. And that they recycle the boxes which apparently means he couldn’t spare one. Translation = he wouldn’t spare one. I just hope he gets punched regularly.
ZERO stars actually. This place has become a joke. I visited this store at 445pm on Monday February 21st, and for the 3nd time in a row, they did not give me one of the bags of my purchased items. (I spent $109.86 this visit) I realized after arriving home, that I was missing the magic erasers I had purchased and low and behold, the clerk once again did not give me my receipt. Luckily I have the DG app that tells you what you recently purchased, and it was one of the first things on the list. (It wouldnt be there if i hadn’t purchased it.) I sent my husband back to the store to retrieve them because I already paid for them, and the clerk “didn’t remember” him, even though we were just there 5 minutes prior through a lengthy check out process. The manager who also had to adjust the prices of some of the items I bought on clearance, refused to give them to my husband! They were still behind the counter off to the side for God’s sake! She was incredibly rude and told him that we would have to pay for them again!! I couldn’t believe it. That place is a disaster, and with business practices like that, I hope they get shut down.. Sad to say considering I have been a regular customer of theirs for over 6 years.
Staff deal with a lot of people all day so it’s hard to remember a person out of 200 plus people. Staff will tell you how many bags you have and don’t “keep” them for themselves. The store is short staffed and picking out all the negative isn’t fair. There’s a lot of positive things. Retail can be stressful and staff do their best for each customer.
This store is right on my route between work and the warehouse. I used to stop in here quite frequently. Store manager is a bit hit and miss. Helpful one day, not so much the next. Rest of the staff is pleasant/helpful. Have always been told “X bags” or asked if I would like my receipt. Few of them need a bit more training on how to put in bags (IE no canned goods with chips/bread). Lots of clutter/stock not put away consistently in the aisles. Constantly out of popular items. You get the “we haven’t been getting that in lately” excuse. I find it funny that another Dollar General in the vicinity always has those same items. I started going to that one now instead. Definitely worth the extra mile drive.
