What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Love this market! We came for some amazing ramen as well as bubble tea; groceries and bakery which always has super fresh pastries. Keep in mind that according to new regulations today (1/8/22) they ask you to show your vaccine card if you want to dine in at the food court (asked at the time of placing an order at the counter). You can still shop and get food to go without having to show one.

  2. I’ve been going to Mitsuwa for nearly two decades now. Always solid restaurants (provided you come early enough to eat there!), Kinokuniya (Japanese bookstore) is always fun to check out and has recently expanded, and the grocery section itself has a lot of Japanese food and other products that are often hard to find in a physical store here. There’s a mochi shop near the entrance that’s also great; the apple pie one is my favorite, but I’ve never tried one of their flavors I didn’t like at all. They even have a Japanese bakery where you can pick up favorites like melon bread or chocolate cornets!

One thing to note: I don’t believe Mitsuwa accepts EBT, if that’s a concern for you. They at least didn’t used to, but you can double-check before checkout. Just a warning so you can adjust your expectations.

Mugimaru and Santouka are the go-to restaurants if you’re looking for noodles; Santouka has been there FOREVER and they have the best ramen I’ve tried, while Mugimaru has god-tier udon (they’re my personal favorite and also have a nice selection of tempura). Other restaurants feature everything from bowls to boba to takoyaki to… I think there’s even still a Korean restaurant that’s also been there forever, actually? There’s an amazing variety to choose from, and that’s just the restaurants.

The only thing I would say is a slight negative is that they seem to be suffering from success, in a way. I don’t know if it’s because their restaurants offer Doordash now or what, but it feels like MANY more people have discovered them over the past few years (seriously, they’re more crowded on a regular basis now than they were after a local anime convention ten years ago), and there’s often an issue with your favorite restaurants selling out or needing to close early in the day. Fortunately, it’s usually not too big of an issue, since the other restaurants are also great. The seating area, though, despite being expanded, is still often extremely crowded due to its overwhelming popularity.

This issue is honestly more of a testament to how good they are, if anything, lol. I still highly encourage you to give them a try if you’re ever in the Chicagoland area, though I admit this suggestion will not improve the crowding problem. ????

(Pictures are taken years apart; as you can see, big fan of udon, lmao.)

  3. A little pricy but great market! I would suggest going early in the day because they do sell out of bakery and sushi items quickly. Same thing goes with the food court places. I was super bummed they were out of crepes and some other dinner items as well. Overall I would highly recommend checking it out!

  4. One of the must go place if you ever visit Chicago area.

Most authentic Japanese food court and japanese products. Have been back every time visiting Chicago. From ramen to donburi, bbq to pancakes, onigiri or crepes. Almost anything that you have seen in movies or anime that you want to try out is offered here. Make sure you go there hungry. After you have seen all the food they offers it will be hard to resist to not eat anything.

  5. Our family had a great time here. We got a variety of dishes from the places in the food court and shared them. They were delicious! The grocery and book store were also fun to explore. The only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 was because it seems like they could use some more seating.

I like this supermarket very much for number of reasons: 1. They have 5-gallon water bottles in stock ALL the time. I have been in this place so many times, and unlike other supermarkets near-by they are never out of stock on the 5-gallon water bottles. 2. The staff, especially the register/cashier staff are super cool and friendly. 3. Their fruit selection is great and always fresh. They have almost any necessary item one needs for their kitchen. The place is very large and clean and neatly kept. Their bakery has wide selection of cookies, cakes, and specially birthday cakes. Their parking lot is huge which creates a friendly driving interaction when going shopping. The extended roof above the entrance is an awesome addition during poor weather condition. I prefer Tony’s over Jewel-Osco or Mariano’s. It is a great neighborhood supermarket.

All the time that my family and I shop here, there’s always a few things that are expired! I just bought this bag of chips yesterday April 12, 2023. We were eating them today but it tasted and smelled weird, til we looked at the date and it’s from last year. Like really, you guys don’t check the dates on the food when you are stocking the shelves with “FRESH” food. Another time, I picked up a tres leches cake for my daughter’s birthday party, and as I was serving my guest cake, it smelled like spoiled milk. I like coming here because I like the variety of fruits and vegetables but I guess no more shopping here anymore.

Too bad I live so far away or I’m pretty sure I’d be stopping in there 3 times a week. Great grocery store and nice staff. Their catering is absolutely wonderful!!!! Great food at very reasonable prices and there’s nothing you can’t find there. My all time favorite grocery store.

Very helpful store. Sale prices are terrific! Tuesday’s are Senior Days when you save 10% on your entire purchase including sale items. The store is large and well maintained!

This is the second time walking out after shopping in Prospect/Arlington Heights. Last time there were no registers open, only self check. This time only one register and the self check out. I was waiting 15 minutes and there were still three people ahead of me. Down from five. I asked an employee if they could open another line. She said it would be a couple minutes. Ten more minutes went by and she has not moved from helping people in the self check. My back is killing me! Now you can restock my cart with sliced deli meats, frozen, milk and other items I wanted. On another date only the self check was open. They would not open a regular register. I’m going down the street to Jewel. I have walked out of other stores when only self check was available. What ticks me off the most is seeing several employees just walking around and talking. I really wanted and needed some of these items.

I used to be a regular at Jewel, but they changed their rewards program. Now they have disappearing points. Unless you become a paying rewards customer. They had spiral hams for 0.99 per pound so I went to get that. Did pick up a couple other things. The store is clean. Seamed well stocked. Isles large enough for 2 to pass. I got what I wanted, used the self checkout and was one my way.

I am about to cry here; happy cry. I had such a caring experience and I want the whole world to know! Jewel, young lady, you went above and beyond. Thank you! Yesterday night, I went grocery shopping at Jewel. I had a lot of items, and a fair amount were heavy items. Once I was done, I went up to the check out aisles. Unfortunately, the only check out aisle with a person was the 15 items or less aisle. I sort of panicked. I had so much stuff! I knew they wouldn’t all fit on a self-check-out ledge part section.  And if something went wrong, it’d be difficult to get help. I wouldn’t hear any sounds. I was just standing there, scared. The lady at the express lane wasn’t paying attention to me… I really didn’t know what to do. It was a very isolating, lonely feeling. One of the employees in the self check out area saw me and said something to me. I indicated to her that I couldn’t hear her. 🙁 To my absolute surprise, she started signing! OH MY GOD! YOU KNOW SIGN LANGUAGE! was flashing in my mind. She asked if I needed help. I let her know I did! So, I brought my fully packed cart over to her and a self checkout machine. She let me know to put my phone number in. (As this would give me the member discount.) She scanned all my items, and asked me if I wanted to keep the fingernail stuff in my purse. I did. She also checked to see if I wanted my Pepsi left out, and I did. She made sure I knew the total. She helped me to scan my EBT card. She didn’t have any judgement regarding that, as, sadly, some clerks in some stores do. I put in my credit card for the non EBT items. She let me know when she had to step away for a minute. We had successfully checked out my big order, and it went so well. Not only am I extremely impressed and happy that an employee knows sign language, but she completely went far above and beyond to help me. To take the initiative to see if I needed help, to making sure I got my discount, and that my Pepsi was left out. I would have been elated just with her knowing sign language. But she made me feel welcomed, valued, important, and just like a normal human being. I wasn’t embarrassed and I didn’t feel judged. I felt like a valued customer and a valued human being. The little things that were once so easy, turn into nightmares when you have a disability. Especially when you have a disability others can’t see…. This is the first time I’ve had an employee know how to sign and help me so much. I was tearing up walking out of the store because I was just so grateful. I wanted to give her a hug! I did speak up the best I could and said thank you to her. Jewel, I did not get her name, and her name is not on my receipt. But she has shorter black hair, is a pretty lady, in her 20s or 30s I think. I checked out on 02/27/2023 at 22:32 (10:32pm) at a self checkout machine. I just want her to be told how awesome she is! PLEASE please give this employee a raise! She is such a wonderful worker, and such a wonderful person.  She made me think of Jewel in a much more positive and happy way. Like, that Jewel actually CARES about the community, and isn’t just in it for the money. Something that seems small at the time, can have a huge impact on someone’s day, and self esteem. THANK YOU Jewel! THANK YOU young lady! THANK YOU for making what would have been a stressful and scary experience for me, into one that went by flawlessly. Thank you. It means much more than you know.

I work second shift and this location is open to midnight. Good store to pick-up things on my way home. Cashier Jesse was friendly and talkative despite the fact the store was closing soon. I felt unhurried. Thank you

Everytime I go and get things from this store I end up with something expired. Check your expiration dates before you buy. I like their produce area, but they can be pricey for other things.
