What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. This is easily the best Safeway in the area in terms of selection, quality, space, and crowding; however, as anywhere, don’t be surprised when that sale item sells out before you get there, especially if it’s breakfast (e.g., waffles, bacon). Of course, you can get a rain check at Guest Services, but only before about 7pm. The vast majority of the staff are friendly & helpful, with only the very occasional stereotypical retail crankypants.

  2. It was so crowded and the deli was NOT stocked with ANYTHING during the lunch hour at 11:30… The staff was kind but had NO IDEA how to make any of the sandwiches in the deli… I was shocked that it took us OVER 30 mins to get 2 sandwiches made… And then the song check out is super sensitive and instantly freezes when there is anything remotely not scanned… The clerk at self check out was super helpful and understanding and was able to get us the correct prices for EVERYTHING! I’m a Safeway lover, and I’ve shopped at this store for years when living in the bay area, BUT the experience we had yesterday was unneeded and took way too long… I WILL give credit to Safeway though for their incredibly abundant amount of flowers and gifts for Mother’s Day…

  3. Organization doesn’t make sense. Lean cuisine is not marked and not with other frozen entrees. Parking is horrible. Tight spaces. Peds and bikes crowding car lanes. Store is out of sparkling water. Bakery staff only speaks Chinese.

  4. This store is an anchor store in a very popular shopping block. Huge store with extra shopping options and services. It also has a gas station near the parking lot.
You can do lots of your shopping needs here.

Just your average Traders Joe’s. If you’ve ever been to one you know the deal. They’re all very similar to each other. Nevertheless, this place is still very awesome. Glad it’s here in Alameda.

I have been shopping here for years! I have always loved the attention to detail the staff put into doing their inventory. Most dont know how serious FIFO is or temperature danger zones of all perishable foods. In the past years, it’s understanding that the pandemic has created supply issues. What has been bothersome is the quality of produce and perishables. My groceries should last at least 4 days in my refrigerator. However, they are going bad at an alarming rate. So much so that we realized we were throwing away food and started buying produce and other perishables at other places. When refrigerated trucks bring in produce and they are put in places without refrigeration, they are then susceptible to the temperature danger zone and spoilage. Management needs to carefully manage this better. I fear for the immune compromised individuals/seniors who could get sick from food born illnesses. Till then, I’ll only be buying select things at my favorite trader joes in the east bay.

Nice, big store format with a huge parking lot as part of the shipping center. The two closest rows to the store are often jammed, but if you’re willing to walk even a few more yards, there’s a ton of parking.

The only trader joe around, had to give it a 5 stars. Usually lots of students here on the weekday but that’s not a problem. Everyone was so nice, a great community!

I was going to be next and some staff person rudely came to the side of the counter and turned the service light off. Did nto even bother to tell the people who falling inline that this counter was closed. There was no words spoken to the cashier. He was simply rude. Hope management will find out who this person in duty was on 26Jun23 early afternoon.

Friendly clean shopping in West Alameda. This Safeway has been our principal groceries place since we moved here in 2018. Noticeable: cashiers are generally very friendly and helpful.

Great place to stock up on dijournos, pop tarts, pizza beagles or really just about anything. I even bought toilet paper here once, they got it all and boy do they deliver! Safeway: it’s a safe way to shop

Across from Tam High my Grandmother was in the third graduating class. She made a great cabinet in woodshop. Different times. This place is amazing. Great employees who deal with Marin customer base of all ages that act like they have never been in a supermarket or even out in public ever before. Great customer service and presentation ????

What is up with Safeway’s ridiculously tedious sale pricing. After my visit here on 24 Apr 23, I’ll never step foot in another Safeway! I pull up the ad on Safeway’s website, I see several things that would be nice for my meals for the next week. The website allowed me to click a button on the website instead of clipping coupons from a paper copy of the ad, which I’d not have. I get in the store, start adding my choices to the cart. As I finish in the produce department and grab 1/2 & 1/2, milk and some yogurt, I arrive at the meat counter. There are lots of people trying to decide on dinner, so I pull my cart off to the side, and try to find the chicken bits I wanted. Three minutes later, someone has made off with my cart. So I get to start all over, and even need to go outside and even grab another cart. As I re-fill my cart, I finalize my shopping, head to the checkout aisle, as I’m waiting I realise my shopping bags were taken. Now I get to pay for bags too! The total when I am paying for my goods, it is considerably more expensive than I had calculated. Much more expensive. Hell, my 18 pack of Coke Zero is $4 more than the advertised price. When I got outside, I looked at the receipt, comparing it to the ad I picked up in the store. Noticing that nothing on the receipt matches the ad, so I go back inside. I ask the woman overseeing the self-checkout. She points to booth at the far end of the store. Closed until further notice. I head back to the checkstands looking for someone to help me. No one other than the woman that checked me out. As she is finishing up with her only customer, I explain what is going on, and ask her to page a manager. The manager comes over, he tells me that if I don’t use the Safeway app, clicking the coupons on the website does nothing, even though I had to provide my ‘club card’ information. Silly me, I assumed that this information would be matched up to my account when I keyed my phone number at the checkstand. NOPE!!! That would just be too logical. I had to pull everything that was on sale out of my bags, it had to be returned, and when the manager got the point where those items would need to be re-rung, I chose not to take them. It seems that pricing is just a big game to the management at Safeway! I guess the goal is to lure customers into the store with great deals, and then make it so difficult actually get those deals, that you’ll not notice that you are being ripped off by a huge corporation! Whole Foods has better prices than Safeway does, Whole Foods doesn’t make one jump through hoops to get the sale prices, and Whole Foods food quality is a thousand percent better! I may present this to the Alameda County DA’s office!
