  Walked in today, and after scheduling an appointment on an online portal that was no longer utilized to my disappointment, but the office manager was professional, awesome and ended up fitting me in to be seen by a Dr, and have a consult to have some fillings, and a deep cleaning scheduled. The Dr was great, very empathetic, and explained everything in my dental plan. Thank you Family Dental of Virginia for giving me a awesome experience today.

  I read through all the reviews and was pretty nervous that I’d be waiting for hours but that wasn’t the case. I arrived at 10:15. My appointment was at 10:30. I got called back at 10:45. All the staff was absolutely phenomenal and the dentist was incredibly patient. I have pretty bad dental anxiety and he very patiently told me what he was doing and kept checking to make sure I was okay. I had such a good experience that I sent my husband to get his dental care done there as well.

  Office staff were very courteous and knowledgeable. Appointment was for 12:30. I arrived at 12:05 as I knew about filling out the forms. I was called at 12:30. The technician was professional taking the X-rays. DR Mohan was fantastic with bedside manner and explained in detail what treatment I needed. A follow-up appointment was made to begin treatment. Super Day at the DENTIST OFFICE.

  The dentist was great she did 4 extractions and I felt no pain and she was concerned about me being in pain. She gave me a prescription after the procedure was done. The staff was very nice as well I would recommend Family Dental to my family and friends.

  I have been to James River Family Dentistry for several visits now. I highly recommend this practice. It’s a small group that gives very personal treatment. They go above and beyond to make it a non-stressful visit and are great about following up to make sure all is well. Dr. Guthrie is very thorough yet gentle and frequently checks to be sure you are still comfortable while she is working on your mouth. But really the whole team is excellent. I feel like personal treatment is their top priority.

  Walking into a warm and beautiful environment that feels more like a home was very welcoming. Aesthetics are modern and laid out thoughtfully for everyone’s enjoyment. Clean and well organized. Customer service I’ll give a 10/10 because of the beautiful smiles, attentiveness with great communication before and after I entered into the building.   This was my third visit with James River Dentistry and definitely the best. My hygienist was very nice, pleasant, and informative. A difference from the hygienist I had my first few visits. This time I was offered a tooth brush and tooth paste which unlike before. That small detail was really considerate and nice to me. Great appointment!

  It had been at least 5 or 6 years since I had been to the dentist, in a large part due to my anxiety, fear, and guilt about how bad I felt my teeth were. Everyone at the practice was so kind and Kayla, the hygienist who did the cleaning, was AMAZING at making the process as comfortable as possible. She checked in regularly to see how I was doing, thoroughly explained the process, answered all my questions, etc. And Dr Forbes was also very kind and easy to talk to. For the first time, I left without my mouth screaming in pain or tasting like blood. I was so anxious going in and walked out more relaxed than I have EVER felt after a dental appointment. I’m feeling happier about the state of my teeth and smile and I am so grateful for the care of this team.

  My fiancé and I booked appointments here for the first time to get a cleaning before our wedding. Everyone was so kind and welcoming and gave us well wishes for our day 🙂 I am always very hesitant to go to the dentist because I’m usually very pushed to pursue braces. I didn’t feel pressured here at all about anything, and was actually told I had beautiful teeth which really made my day! We will definitely be happy to make this our regular dentist.

  Don’t go to this place for braces. Yes their prices are affordable, but the orthodontist ordered to extract a good teeth instead of a teeth that has a filling. I found out after they pulled out the teeth. Now after they remove the braces I started to have pain in the teeth that they supposed to pulled in the 1st place. Very unorganized location, rude receptionists from ortho to dentistry. Yeah, they charged me cheaper from the other orthodontics but I lost a good teeth. Please don’t go here for any services!

  I need braces for my bottom teeth only cause they never grown correctly and it cause me pain. So I went to this location thinking I will get treated well as a patient boy I was wrong from front desk to back office the most rude disrespectful doctors to doctors assistant for 2/3 years as a patient there paying out of pocket I was treated very unkind every visit rudeness not welcoming or friendly always have attitude front desk Otho & braces hand you clipboard like she want to hit you with it. It’s was bad experience for me I never seen such unprofessional service in my life I never leave reviews but today is the day when things need to be revealed!!! So the Otho & braces manager told me to get braces for both top and bottom so they can grow evenly or correctly on my ever first visit 2 years ago but I only need the bottom done. I guess they lied to me so they get more money from. But the funny thing is after removing both bottom and top braces this year I’m experiencing some severe damage to both of my teeth bottom and top which I didn’t experience before like I say I only need bottom braces cause that was my biggest problem and I need the bottom to get fix. So fast forward I removed my braces I started to experience issues I mean big painful issues my bottom teeth is uneven they don’t match up when I smile my teeth is out of place I had open space in my teeth when I put my retainers in both of my teeth when they touched they started to shack uncontrollably and my bottom teeth you can’t even touch it’s so sensitive to even eat sometime so the doctor on the Otho& braces side “recommended” to shave down my bottom teeth just raw with out apply anything on it after complaining to her during the process that it hurts and it’s causing me pain she kelp shaving down my teeth both top and bottom but she kelp on drilling down my bottom the most.my teeth just started shacking after she stop drilling them down then I say look you see my teeth are shacking uncontrollably and I can’t stop it. And she responded back to me it’s cause you are nervous. When a professional license said that to me I was blown and felt unsaved in her care. So now I’m in pain and both of my teeth fell completely damaged after wearing braces for almost 3 years if I can help anyone to not go through this nightmare after giving away thousands of dollars I will please stay away from this location and unprofessional service!!!!

  Worst experience. I waited 2 hrs before I was even seen, then I found myself running out of there. All they want to do is route canals…or pull. But instead I flat out refused, What I would do over next couple of weeks perhaps this can help you. Rinse mouth out, with whatever way one wishes to cleanse it like, for example 1/2 peroxide and water. Avoid fluoride toothpaste. And then do routinely oil pull which is a spoonful of coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil and swish all over gums and teeth holding for 15 or so minutes. Spit out, in garbage. Wow, what a difference, perhaps this is something you can try. .. of you remove the root from a tree or plant what happens to it? It dies. No? So refrain from doing that to your teeth in your mouth.   After being denied care in roanoke i was able to get a next day appointment in Richmond at this location… everyone from the receptionists to the nurse to the oral surgeon were amazing ..it was well worth driving 3½ hours to have my dental work done …I would return to this location again

  I’m only giving two because I appreciate the lady at the front desk for ortho! She’s always a pleasure. The assistants are a pleasure as well. I’ve had 1 horrible experience with a doctor myself. And for that I’ll never get work done here because I’m scared straight. However it’s been a pleasure for my daughter. And whomever is in charge of the phones must need more money because they never answer the phone. So drive up there to make or change your appointment.

  What I thought would be a more challenging visit due to a downtown location, became easy, encouraging and positive. Its never fun to go to a dentist. I had a little anxiety going in but everyone from security, admin staff, admissions and finally the dentist was caring and supportive answering my questions and addressing my needs. The appointment process was super easy over the phone and after my consultation and procedure when I left, my parking claim ticket was validated.   Wonderful experience with Dr. Vaughn today. I was referred by my primary dentist to see the endodontics at vcu. I previously has a root canal done years ago and never went back for my crown. I ended up getting a infection and needed a new root canal. Dr Vaughn was so great! He was very thorough, felt no pain and the student that was with him was also very pleasant. I really feel like if I had went elsewhere they would have just extracted my tooth but thank goodness I waited for September openings because he was able to save my tooth and do a new root canal in a few short hours! I can’t thank him and the team there enough!
