Essential Dental Procedures in Elk Grove CA
Dental health plays a pivotal role in our overall well-being. Routine dental check-ups not only ensure the health of our teeth and gums but can also prevent a variety of potential health complications. Here, we delve into some of the most common dental procedures that individuals may encounter in their journey to maintain optimal oral health.
1. Cleanings:
- What it involves: This is perhaps the most routine of all dental procedures. A dental cleaning involves the removal of plaque and tartar that accumulate on the teeth over time. The dentist or dental hygienist uses specialized instruments to gently clean the teeth and gums, followed by polishing the teeth.
- Why it’s done: Regular cleanings prevent cavities, gum disease, and other dental complications. They also provide the dentist an opportunity to examine the mouth for signs of other issues, such as oral cancer or tooth grinding.
2. Fillings:
- What it involves: A filling is used to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. The dentist first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned-out cavity with a filling material. This material can be gold, porcelain, a composite resin, or an amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, and sometimes tin).
- Why it’s done: Fillings are essential to treat cavities and prevent further decay. Without a filling, bacteria can enter the tooth, leading to more serious infections and complications.
3. Extractions:
- What it involves: An extraction is the complete removal of a tooth. It can be done using local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring the patient feels no pain during the procedure. The dentist then uses special tools to loosen and remove the tooth. In some cases, a more involved procedure may be necessary if the tooth is impacted (not fully erupted into the mouth), which is often the case with wisdom teeth.
- Why it’s done: Extractions are performed for various reasons. A tooth may be too damaged or decayed to save, or there might be too many teeth in the mouth, causing crowding. Additionally, some diseases or treatments (like chemotherapy or an organ transplant) might require a compromised tooth to be removed to ensure the patient’s overall health.
In Conclusion
While dental procedures might seem daunting, they are essential for maintaining oral and overall health. Modern dentistry has made these procedures relatively painless and often quick. It’s crucial to have regular check-ups to identify potential issues early and address them, ensuring a bright and healthy smile for years to come.

3 weeks agoMy husband and I had been going here for a while and if you just need a cleaning the hygienists are fine. The cleanings tend to take a long time but you can watch TV while they do it. Our last few experiences with Ora Dentistry have not been great. They are always trying to upsell you some treatment, product, or service. The big thing now are the deep cleanings with laser therapy. My husband had his cleaning appointment a few months before mine and they said he needs the deep cleaning. The deep cleaning takes 2 appointments of an hour and a half each and insurance doesn’t cover it all. He said no thank you I will stick to the regular cleaning. They said they would not schedule him for a regular cleaning he had to do the deep cleaning. Fast forward to my appointment this week and what do you know, I need a deep cleaning too. The guy checking out at the desk next to me also did too!! The hygienists said based on my X-rays from my last appointment (at which no one mentioned a deep cleaning) I need a deep cleaning. Dentist was late (hasn’t shown up to the office yet) and then barely checked my teeth. Didn’t do any of the typical stuff I have had with our other dentist that retired. Like checking gum line and what not. Then tried to sell me a cosmetic treatment. She didn’t say anything about a deep cleaning. The hygienists made the recommendation. I told the desk clerk that I did not want to schedule the deep cleaning. She told me they wouldn’t schedule the regular cleaning and that the polish they use in the regular cleaning (that they had literally just put on my teeth minutes earlier during my regular cleaning) was bad if you need a deep cleaning and caused bacteria!!! She said if I just wanted regular cleanings I have to go somewhere else. No problem! I will happily go somewhere else. They are money hungry and unethical.a week agoAmazing experience. I hate going to the dentist cause I have sensitive teeth but these guys took care of me. Had to have a tooth extracted cause the crown broke off. They got me in quick, have a beautiful office, everyone was super nice, and before I knew it the tooth was out and I was on my way. I will come back in the future. Thank You!!!3 months agoI love this place, I’ve been guilty of not taking care of my teeth over the years and visiting dentists which I dread. They are all very friendly and welcoming, they even were able to squeeze me in for appointment today since I’ve been having horrible tooth pain. I thank the staff for excellent service.2 months agoExactly was I was looking for in a Dental Office. A full and lively staff, great dental hygienist and a clean atmosphere. My husband and I got our first cleaning there and I loved it. Glad to have found Ora Dentistry.5 months agoMy personal experience with Dr. Le was that she is a business woman 1st and a dentist 2nd. I want to start by saying my initial impression was very positive, my 1st 2 appointments she and her staff were kind and knowledgeable. I had a very negative experience for my 3rd appointment which was a crown appointment. Her tech could not get the crown to fit properly after drilling it down about 7 – 10 times, then cemented in my mouth despite it not fitting (when I asked the tech are you sure you should cement it when it does not fit, she told me that she needs to cement the crown 1st in order to truly determine the fit (not accurate when the crown was set / not moving during the bite tests), the tech puts it in, then re-drills it about 8 more times (at which point the tech becomes visibly frustrated, stressing me out) before stating it’s too big and she’ll have to rip the crown out and re-do it. Then I ask to see the dentist (whom I hadn’t seen at all this appointment yet) and then she comes and checks it, spends 5 – 10 minutes drilling it before stating she didn’t have time to see me that day (but she didn’t see me for more than 5 minutes during the appointment that I waited an extra 4 days to set because she wasn’t available the week prior and only saw me after the tech could not align my bite).
My main issue was how much time Dr. Le spent with me as a new patient, and the dichotomy between how much time she spends with “not new patients”. I was lead to believe she actually would perform the important dental procedures. She spent over 30 minutes with me during my initial appointment (a tooth cleaning and diagnostics) as a new patient, but for a crown setting appointment only 5 – 10 minutes but she did not even see me until an hour and seven minutes after my appointment started, and only after her tech already cemented the crown incorrectly and could not align my bite, who then told me she’d have to take out the entire crown and make a new one re-do it at a later date. I had a misaligned bite for about a week and a few days of severe tension headaches until I was able to come back and get it fixed. I had no issues with Dr. Le’s personal work I think she did a great job when she actually worked on me, but at this point her clinic is too busy and she has delegated the job to where she can charge a thousand dollars for a 1 inch square piece of porcelain and not even have to spend more than 5 minutes with the patient or even do the installation. This place is a cash cow and the Bentley parked outside is a nice touch.

2 weeks agoI had my first basic cleaning before a deep cleaning and I haven’t seen a dentist in over 10 years. They were so kind and welcoming and eased all of my anxiety about being at the dentist. Tay, my hygienist was thorough and fun and Brenda who did my fluoride and polish and rinse was wonderful. She was personable and very good at what she does, and made me feel relaxed and less scared. I’m looking forward to getting the rest of my dental care done here and getting my teeth back on track!2 months agoI visited the office twice, the first one was last year and the second one was today, the stuff is really great. I have to remove all my four wisdom teeth and have some cavities. It is a great place to go, they really care about their patients. They try their maximum best to help their patients. I am a student and asked if they can help me to get the appointment sooner for my wisdom teeth removal, because I only have the summer and after the summer I am leaving to San Francisco and will not have time after summer to come back to my appointments, they give me a consultant appointment, so I will be able to talk to their employer if I can get the appointment a little sooner. Also, my wisdom teeth’s are bothering me and I have constant pain. This shows that they provide the best services to their patients, I never saw in another dental office to give me a consultant appointment, so I can talk to someone about my problem. The place is clean, and the stuff is great. Love smile dental!!!2 weeks agoBrinda, Tay, and the full staff took great care of me during my appointment. I feel like I have a new set of teeth. Everything feels so fresh and clean! 😁3 months agoToday i had 2 fillings and got in and out super quick no pain doctors and assistant was amazing and super sweet and even the front office check in/out team Nicole checked me out and was the most sweetest thing ever and really helped me out today. I also take my kidos here and they’re AMAZING with my kids too !! Deff recommend for all to come here 😊.7 months agoThe care I receive when I’m there is very good and the staff are wonderful, HOWEVER they get a low rating from me because of their scheduling! My last THREE APPOINTMENTS have been CANCELLED, and it’s difficult to reschedule within any reasonable time frame. They used to be much more reliable – when the appointment was scheduled it would happen. I don’t know what changes they made when it comes to scheduling/staffing, but it is definitely not working and I hope they will fix it. If they do then I’d change this to a five star dentist office.

Since my dentist of 30 years retired, I’ve been on the hunt for a new one.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve been to four different dental offices and I finally found home.
Oak Tree Dentistry has the friendliest staff with an incredible vibe. So incredibly welcoming.
Dr. Gill is amazing. He shows confidence and compassion. His work is top notch. I also appreciate that he didn’t try to over sell to me. The hunt was worth the wait. Thank you Oak Tree Dentistry!
Great Dentist. Knowledgeable, inviting staff.

Oak Tree Dentistry is AMAZING! I have been a patient with Oak Tree Dentistry for a few years and I am pleased with the staff. I am newly on blood thinners and was real nervous about how that would affect my experience. I was comforted by the front ent staff and Michelle was so gentle with me. Thank you Oak Tree Dentistry!
I was nervous selecting a dentist on the Internet – I read so many reviews of so many dentists. My research led me to Oak Tree, and when I called the office with some questions I was directed to Kim, who enthusiastically answered everything and was genuinely welcoming. Now I had my first visit to the office – Dr. Gill is quite professional, very thorough in his examination and easy to talk to. Bonus point for me is that he graduated from NYU and so did I! The office itself is attractive and well run. I am happy to have found this dental home!
Me likey a lot. Hercules is the name, and quality dentistry is my game. Office manager Kim rocks! Dr Gill is very detailed. Pay them a visit!
