What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. I love Rue de Jean! The food is delicious and ready on time. I phoned in an order for takeaway and it did not disappoint. The Caesar salad was delicious. Do yourself a favor and order the braised short rib – it’s life changing delicious. I also got a bottle of house red and it was surprised me how good it was. Another night I ordered the fried goat cheese salad and a burger with fries. The fries were some of the best I’ve had, the salad was small but exceptional, and the burger was very bare bones and a hit over cooked. Overall, Rue de Jean is one of my favorite spots in Charleston.

  2. We were there for the late lunch, and we both ordered sandwiches. The portion was so generous we ended up taking half of our sandwiches to go. The atmosphere was relaxed yet fine dining setting. It has a great selection of cocktails. Flavor-wise was spot on. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

  3. We had a great meal here. I love that they have kids meals and crayons. The kid pasta dish was simple but very well done. I ordered the pork chop, which was delicious. I’d describe it as French food with a Southern flair.

  4. Rue de Jean is a classic French bistro with very tasty French fare. It won’t knock your socks off, but you will walk out thinking you just had a very nice meal. Skip fried stuff like the duck confit croquettes. Do go for the duck breast; the salad with warm goat cheese, beets and candied pecans; the short rib; and the creme brulee. Wine selection is large and very good. It is family-friendly, and service is very nice. There is a paid lot right across the street.

  5. Great waiter. I’m embarrassed that I forgot his name. The onion soup is fantastic. I wanted pick up the bowl and pour in my mouth to make sure I got the last sip. The lamb tenderloins medium rare are mouth watering. And the grilled baby carrots are not to be missed.

We enjoyed a delicious late lunch at Fast and Fresh (which is what the staff call the restaurant). Our server Max was delightful. We enjoyed numerous versions of a croque monsieur. All were delicious. The portions were plenty and the price was low considering the quality and quantity of the meal. I would highly recommend a meal at Gaulart & Maliclet if you are in the area, we will definitely return when next in Charleston.

Lovely little spot for lunch! Took the kids and enjoyed sandwiches and soups for a light lunch. We all were raving about the food we ordered. Several of my kids ordered the Croq Monsieur and thought it was delicious! We were also pleased at the vegan menu options. I ordered the lentil soup and another child ordered the vegan baguette (with an olive tapenade) and we had entree envy when we all tasted hers!

We had originally tried to go to another spot but too crowded. Walked further down and found this adorable spot! We walked in and were able to get a space at the bar. I think we had just beaten the lunchtime rush because about 25 min later, it was bustling with business! I got the French onion soup with a passion fruit Bellini followed by a raspberry sorbet mimosa. All super delicious! Only reason for 4/5 was the staff seemed so rushed and busy that it was hard to get their attention. I think they were a bit stressed which is understandable when trying to help many people who didn’t have reservations and were slightly impatient. I’d come back again!

Good breakfast place serving typical French dishes. Coffee was good as well, could be sweeter for my taste. The MonteCristo sandwich for amazing, do definitely try that. Service was quirky but prompt. Prices are fair.

A unique place in an old building with lots of charm. We sat in a table that was tucked in a back alcove that was so secluded that it was basically a private room, but the servers never forgot about us so it was nice. The food was okay (nothing special) and the selection was kind of restrictive, but if you want more traditional breakfast stuff there are plenty of other places to go. The wait to get in was long even at an off time in the off season though, and the time estimate by the host wasn’t accurate, so I shudder to think what it would be like during a more busy time

Simply delicious. Authentic French dive, friendly staff and amazing food. I had the smoked salmon crepes and the baked apple crepe. Both better than any crepe I’ve had. Ever. It’s a small establishment, and I beat the rush so I got a table. I will definitely be going back next time I am in town! Definitely.

Small Cafe off the main street (King) but great menu choices. I think there are only four or five tables so it is cozy and quaint. We were seated but then asked to move to a table that was previously reserved because those guests suddenly had an addition to their party. We were happy to oblige and the chef sent us two macaroons as a thank you. The gesture was much appreciated. Great choices for crepes whether sweet or savory.

It’s been over a year since we have last eaten at Breizh Pan Crepes and we still talk about this cafe. We spent a few weeks in Charleston and this quickly became our go-to daily brunch spot. Everything was amazing the drinks, food and service. The buckwheat savory crepes were insanely good!!! Legitimately French. We loved talking to the friendly owners/staff. I recommend this place to all my friends who are visiting Charleston, it’s a bit of a hidden gem.

First time eating here. Fast friendly service. Nice quaint feel. Tried the omelet, Strawberries & Chantilly Cream, Nutella, banana & strawberries Crepe’s. Presentation was fantastic, and food tasted so good. I want to come back here again. So many good options!

The owners, Patrice and his partner, welcomed us warmly to their cute and cozy French restaurant where we savored tasty crepes (Chef’s recommendation and La Complete). Our daughter had a croissant and was super happy. It really felt that for a few minutes we were somewhere in France.
