  1. We have been very happy to be a new member of the Star community. After entering our 5 year old in the program last fall, we have seen incredible improvement in his focus, discipline, and kindness. The instructors have found the perfect balance with having fun with the kids while also teaching them discipline and respect. We are looking forward to having our younger children join the program once they are old enough.

  2. My son started at Star last year at the end of kindergarten. As a new 6-year-old, we were more interested in the lessons of discipline and hard-work we knew came with quality martial arts instruction. What we didn’t expect was the parental support as it pertains to discipline, respect and confidence. We didn’t expect to find a community of families with similar values. We didn’t expect to find weekend activities, events and workshops that benefit our entire family. And most of all, we never expected to find a lifelong passion for our son who was so young when he started, but it didn’t take long before the love, compassion, and genuine care of the entire Star staff to get him hooked. We love Star Martial Arts and look forward to many more years of the highest quality martial arts education with this amazing team!

  3. We LOVE Star Martial Arts!!! It is like a family here. All of the instructors show so much kindness and help each person in excelling to their next level. We are amazed at how our son has become more confident in himself. He has learned what it means to be disciplined in something. His ability to concentrate and focus on something has grown so much (he is only seven). I would highly recommend Star for ALL ages. There is a community here like nothing else I have seen. Our family is so grateful to be a part of it. Come check them out! I promise you will be grateful you did.

  4. We’ve been attending SMA for 5 months now. This decision was an excellent one for my grandson. He looks forward to going to each class. He has learned what focus, confidence and respect means. We are so prouds of him and the compliments we receive about his manners and confidence. Will we continue with SMA? Absolutely. If you are looking for something to help your child grow in a positive and constructive way. I would say give SMA a try.

    We have been attending for two months my grandson loves it. The instructors are very professional and attentive to the progression of each student. I would highly recommend this school to parents who want to take the child to a higher level of discipline, respect and communication.

  5. My daughter initially liked going. The problem became when she had a major health issue. Hospitalization and then follow ups with Riley doctors. They don’t let anyone out of the contracts even with valid reasons. Another thing that always rubbed me the wrong way was every week end of class they would announce an upcoming event to the kids to get them excited and to “remind parents” and of course that extra event or parents night out would cost more money even for being a “member. “The contracts are unreasonable do not sign one unless your truly sure you can handle the expense even when you or your child physically cant attend anymore. Do your research plenty of other places to attend in the community that are just as kind, and caring and properly educating /training and doesn’t even cost half of this place or require contracts. Run as fast as you can away from this place.many people have thousands in debt because they were unfairly not allowed to break contracts

    My kids have been a part of the Academy for a couple of years. It is a great family oriented place to be a part of and teaches skills that will help a child navigate problems they may encounter. Also if your an adult wanting to try it out or somebody who is looking for some serious BJJ training you can find that on their mats too. Good Luck!

    I only wish I had found this gym, these owners, and these coaches sooner. Truly a great place for beginners to learn. It is great for kids and adults and I cannot say enough great things about this place. If you are looking for a place to train and learn or are on the fence, try the 10 day trial and see for yourself.

    These guys are amazing. The whole crew is so kind and welcoming. I’ve had all 3 of my kids there for years and have been taking lessons and attending classes myself. Definitely worth the time and money as a family investment. Update: gym culture is important and it’s fantastic here. Full of respect and generosity for everyone, regardless where they’re at on their journey, size, gender, or beliefs. Everyone is welcome. Not just from the twins and family, but from other students too.

    The Entire McGuin family and staff are high quality people. They make you feel like family and their passion for the art of JiuJitsu is evident. Not only is their instruction awesome, but the community they have built alone…. is worth it. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND! (I drove regularly from Saginaw MI to attend this school, luckily for me – they opened a new location just 2.5 hours away from my house!)

    Definitely the most Premier Academy in the South Bend area. Gary has a rich history with his lineage and is very well respected across the country. He provides a very traditional approach to jiu-jitsu no watering down of the sport or funny business. He does not have contracts or charge for belt ranking. Like most other academies in the area. It is simple you put in the work you show up you get another belt tied around your waist when it is time and never before.

    Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu is a very comfortable place to learn and Jiu Jitsu is incredibly fun to practice. The instructors are excellent and fellow students are very helpful to beginners. Everyone takes you under their wing and helps you come up to speed. The atmosphere is light and you will get a great workout! They offer kid’s classes too! The kid’s instructors are great. The classes are very up beat. You will be amazed at what your kid can do! And you will want to try it too.

    Great gym so far. No commitment like most other gyms just have to give him enough notice to cancel payment. Other places want you to commit for a year at least. Two BJJ black belts that I have seen so far. They have 2 classes everyday but Sunday so it fits moat schedule. Classes arent too big so there is enough one on one time with the instructor. Omly complaint is that the membership seems a bit high but there really isnt any place as good as this so its worth it for me.

    Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu here in Mishawaka has great people who live as martial artists. The atmosphere is simple and clean with no clutter. Gary & Jack were both super pleasant and skilled at teaching. Though I only had 1 opportunity to visit, I’d really like to come back to hang out with these guys. If you are looking for a great grappling school which you can call your “family”, this is the place.

    An amazing place, Gary’s experience and advanced teaching is of high quality. It is much more than an academy, its family and nothing is bought , everything is earned , by blood, sweat and tears.
