  1. This is a great neighborhood hardware store. They sell just about everything, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They occasionally have good sales as well. For instance, I just bought a quart of Valspar paint–which is currently 50% off. Shop here instead of big-box stores.

  2. Probably my favorite store in Austin! It’s in a true league of its own. Beautifully stocked with gifts, crystal, china, cookware, holiday items, a nursery and a full hardware store. They even have a bridal registry. A walk through Breed’s will make you smile and tempt you on every level. Locally owned, this store is a real gem!

  4. While it’s a fancy name for an Ace Hardware store with a sizeable selection top-shelf home goods, I love it here when I don’t have the stamina for the larger big-name hardware stores. Yet the ample close parking, and easy in and out convenience, does come with some slightly higher prices. It’s worth it at times, especially since I always feel like a kid with my grandfather when picking up simple hardware items, it’s like time travel.

    Went to exchange a gift. The other location on 29th said if they didn’t have what I wanted to come to this location to exchange my gift or have the store order what I want. I got here and they wouldn’t place orders under $100 and wouldn’t exchange or accept returns that were purchased at the other location. Extremely rude and unhelpful staff.

    Breed and Company has been around (it seems like) for forever and this Austinite has been a customer for many years. Half boutique and half Ace Hardware, Breed is an excellent place for everything from the random bolt you need to fine home goods (I could spend all day in the cookware). Quite unlike any other store I’ve been in and the staff is always friendly and willing to help. Not may places like this left. Check them out.
