What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. So I been doing Jiu jitsu for already 5 plus years now except during the time covid hit.
I took off the entire 2020 and early 2021. I was giving the ok to start training at end of 2021 so I was in search of a new school . I went on Yelp and found this place. What drew me to the school was reading the comments in the review section that Professor Manny got his black belt from Caio Terra down in San Jose. If you know anything about Jiu jitsu, you know of Caio Terra. So I reached out to Professor Manny Via Instagram. we connect and come to find out Manny is not affiliated with any school so I was kinda hesitant to come being that my mind was set on Caio. Anyway I decided to just go ahead and try out a free class that they offered here and man I have to say that I wanted to sign during that free class. I felt the love and humbleness from not just Professor Manny but the rest of the guy’s and girls that train there. The school all together is solid. I’ll tell you from experience that I’ve been to so many schools that I felt as if the owner/instructor only saw me as a Dollar sign. Professor Manny cares as much about me as he does for all his students. I never feel any negative feeling here. The opportunities we get here as students are dope and it helps us to better our jiu jitsu with classes in the morning and at night as well as open mats Friday,Saturday and Sundays so thats a ton of mat time for all of us. Every now and again they bring in different black belts to teach so it’s like you have a seminar and I think thats hella dope. Manny teaches the basics but also keeps up with the Evolution of jiu jitsu. Lastly there is no Brazilian politics like a lot of the schools out there. So in my opinion this is one of the best Jiu jitsu schools here in the bay area. If you don’t believe me come see for yourself and try out a class. I promise you won’t regret it💯

  2. Joined a couple months ago and this was the most welcoming gym I have ever been to. Everybody is so nice and is always willing to teach you no matter what. I was really intimidated at first because I never done any martial arts but one class in and I was hooked. Started coming more often and confidence grew. Everyday training session, I’m always learning something new. Never a dull moment. Coach Manny is the nicest person ever and you can really tell he cares about the team and each person that comes in. Thank you Manny and Ed. You guys are great!

  3. I joined this gym a few months ago and it has been an amazing experience. Coach Manny is super friendly, helpful, and a true professional. Everyone here is welcoming and supportive. I felt very nervous and a bit scared to start Jiu Jitsu, but after a few days of training, Manny and all the students made me feel comfortable and I am very excited to keep learning. Definitely recommend this gym to anyone looking to start their Jiu Jitsu journey!!

  4. I visited this gym on two different occasions and truly enjoyed how welcoming the coaches and trainees were! The technique lessons were always helpful and exciting. If you’re looking for a Jiu jitsu gym in San Lorenzo, consider giving this gym a try.

  5. I’ve know Manny the owner since we were both white belts. Manny is one of most well mannered and respectful person I’ve meet when it come to teaching and running a jiu jitsu gym. I had a chance to come visit him for his open mat on Sunday and was amazed of how welcoming he was. If you’re looking to get into jiu jitsu this is a great place to start as Manny is phenomenally detailed instructor.

I have been training at 10th Planet Oakland for 2 months and could not be anymore pleased. The coaches and the other members are phenomenal humans who have been super supportive in getting me started. My personal preference are the am classes due to fewer people which allows for more personal attention. Also my 8 year old son is now training here and I’m excited to learn and grow with him in this environment. Just this week we found out that the gym will be moving into a larger location just a few blocks away which I’m super excited for. All that to say I’m proud to be a Savage! *** The new location is beautiful!! Again I can’t say enough about the quality of people I meet here. It’s a direct reflection of Professor Hillebrand (owner/head instructor).

The coaches and students here have made me feel completely welcomed from day 1. I’ve been attending the beginners Jiu Jitsu class for nearly a month now, and could not be happier with the instruction from Mike, the head coach. The sense of community here is extremely strong, and it really feels like everyone just wants to see you grow. 10th Planet Oakland has been an amazing place to learn and train and I’m so happy I found it!

I visited the Bay Area recently, and had the opportunity to train at 10th Planet Oakland for a week. Professor Hillebrand welcomed me into his gym, and treated me like one of his regular students. The instruction was spot on, with all of the attention to detail you would expect from 10th Planet. The gym has a great vibe, and a huge diversity of practitioners, men and women of all sizes and ages. I learned a lot and can’t wait until my next visit.

This place is so cool! It was my third experience with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and if you’re looking for no ghee, it’s one of the only places in town that offer that has a consistent program. The mats are immaculate because they are cleaned after every class, so hygiene is a high priority here. The instructors are very attentive and welcoming and the culture of the gym is too. It’s aces.

I have been training at 10th Planet Oakland for about 6 months and cannot say enough about this gym and the people in it. Michael does a really good job in setting the tone for the culture in the gym. Everyone, not just the coaches, are super kind, respectful, and quick to help you out if you are struggling with a technique. If you are interested in trying out Jiu Jitsu or are on the fence, I highly recommend coming in for a trial class and see what it’s like. You won’t regret it.

My 4 year old is a covid Era baby and had no social enter actions with the outside world. So I was very nervous about him joining Pallen’s marital arts but seeing his improvement every week bring so much joy to me and my family. This place is a excellent!

Pallen’s was recommended by another parent with a child on the spectrum and they have been an awesome experience for my son. It is family run and they treat you like family in a warm and welcoming atmosphere that’s centered on kindness and respect. The instructors go above and beyond to make my son’s experience the best it can be while teaching him the fundamentals of their martial arts. It is the first place that my son follows the instructions willingly and participates as he should. They have been flexible and understanding of his special needs and are always willing to help him better understand the techniques. They never make him feel bad, but encourage him to do what is expected in a fun and humorous way. Not only has Pallen’s been a special place in the short time we’ve been there, but they continuously engage with the community to support those in need. The Pallen’s family are genuinely kind, caring, and respectful people. If only there were more places like this for the kids in our community.

We’re new to Pallens and thus far love the energy and mission. Sifu Jordan is amazing with the young kids and balances fun with discipline. Only thing keeping me from a 5 rating is that they are going through some growing pains and making post COVID adjustments which makes each session a bit inconsistent but they have been receptive to feedback and quick to adjust. Would definitely recommend to others looking for a “home”.

Great place for the entire family! My husband and I can workout and watch the kids while we do our own workout at the gym. Such a motivating place, I even recently signed up to take the adult morning classes. The monthly goal setting curriculum creates smoother home conversations and is motivating for my whole family. We are absolutely grateful that we are part of the Pallen’s tribe now for a healthier lifestyle.
