  1. We joined the Core family a few months ago and I can say it’s been such an amazing experience. It has brought our family so much closer together. It’s something that we all love and enjoy. If you want your kids to build resilience, patience, learn to focus, and learn self-discipline then give Core a call! They have adult classes too! I have so much respect for all of the coaches who genuinely care about all of their students. Not only has it brought our family together but it’s given us a new family. Get your kids off of the electronics and into what can be a lifelong sport!

  2. Great programs! My daughter, Niece and nephews in there jujitsu program. She absolutely loves it!They r big on teaching the kids self-respect and the sport! They go out of there way to make shure they r giving each kid the attention they need to progress!

  3. In my opinion, Core Combat Sports jiu jitsu program is fantastic. Whether you’re there for sport, self defense or exercise, all students are given ample opportunities. Coach Tommy does very well at not only teaching techniques but also explaining their applicability, both in matches and in real world situations. If you’re in the Rockford area and any of the aforementioned three reasons leave you inclined to begin jiu jitsu, Core Combat Sports is a tremendous place to explore martial arts.

  4. If you are looking to start BJJ look no further. This is a great place to learn the fundamentals of BJJ for all ages. It also has a mix of self defense and sport BJJ. I, a female blue, would not be as far along in my bjj journey without the coaches and community at Core.

  5. I joined core a bout a year ago when I started I was kid with a lot of trauma. I was abused by my mom she beat me for the smallest things like one time I didn’t answer her right away or I accidentally spilled something. It had been that way all my life. I got away and started living with my dad. He had been trying to get my into jujitsu for a while. I remember going with him since before I could remember I even remember when the mates that are at core were put in. I finally decided to watch him train after the three years he was away. I watched and I remember I had been using the moves I watched many Lear all my life. And after that I decided it was time I learned to defend myself after a life time of being defenseless. I was skittish and scared but I when to class as much as I could and it help me to feel comfortable in my ability and in my own skin and to find a balance. It started out as a way for me to defend myself and let the anger I felt out. Without the great people I met at core I would of still been the shell of the kid I was I started as a scared sixteen year old girl and am now 18 years old I’m more confident about my skills and knowledge. Many people think if you stick a kid that’s been through a lot then they’ll be bullies when they walk out it’s not true unless the person makes it so but from what I’ve seen it brings them peace and Confidence. I am a proud member of core combat and I think there are many that need this training. I’m Cierra Miller a white belt of core combat. This is my story and my belief that core is a wonderful place to train.

They have been homeschooled for most of their lives and really don’t know how to defend themselves against bullies (should they ever need to). This school has given them the confidence they were too afraid to have before. They have transitioned to yellow belts in a timely manner I can’t wait to see how far they go.

    My daughter loves the little ninja program! She looks forward to it every week. She is very shy and not into team sports, so this is perfect for her. Master An and Mr Matt are friendly and very patient with the kids. Her confidence and self esteem has improved and she is more outgoing and social, thanks to Rockford Academy.

    My son used to go there when he was younger and now my daughter is there. That tells you how amazing Rockford Academy are. She enjoys herself and wants to improve herself more. The instructors are great and very patience with her and making sure she knows how and what to do properly. Definitely recommend for everyone, adults including.     Master An and Mr. Matt are solid, reliable and patient leaders in the little ninjas class. They help teach my boys respect, hard work and confidence. The instructors keep the boys engaged throughout the class. My boys love both instructors and their whole experience with Rockford Academy!

    As a visiting purple belt I took in an evening mixed levels nogi class with Coach Jason. The instruction was clear and well taught. Plenty of drilling with good training partners. Then about 30 minutes of live rounds. Everyone was very respectful and I really enjoyed my visit, unfortunately I might not have been as good a roll considering the ten pounds of stuffing I ate over Thanksgiving 😜 I hope to go visit again before returning home.

    One of my best decisions, was to come in here and try out jiu jitsu and eventually sign up. I struggled a lot getting back into shape for the past couple years and truly finding a motivation. Adding this into my life has allowed me to set goals for myself. This gym is awesome and the high level training you get will have you confident real fast 💪. Everyone is super friendly and motivating and love helping each other learn. 10/10.

    From the moment we walked into this gym, we knew it was going to be the place we’d sign our son up for BJJ. We were greeted with smiles, and the place just feels so welcoming, it’s not like a normal gym that’s very intimidating, EVERYONE says hello to you. For the little ninjas class, we can’t say anything but amazing things. The coaches do such a great job with keeping the kids on track, teaching them valuable life lessons, and also BJJ. There’s no pressure for kids to do tournaments, or events unless they want to. They host amazing events throughout the year, and have even done parent night out events. Our sons confidence has grown so much by doing BJJ. We have enjoyed this gym so much that my husband actually has recently signed up for the adult BJJ class. He has had nothing but amazing things to say. No one makes him feel like the “new guy,” and everyone is there to help you succeed on your journey. During class, not only do the coaches help you, but your partners and classmates help you if you’re struggling with a drill that’s being taught. This place is more than just a gym, it’s a family. Everyone is so welcoming, encouraging, and there to make your experience BJJ amazing. If you’re looking for a gym to join, this is it. Our family cannot recommend this place enough. -The Bergs
