  1. April 2021: We went to go adopt a hedgehog. Unfortunately, she was already adopted so we checked out the cats. Only one available that needed to be homed by themselves and we already have cats.

We went to the dog area and eventually agreed to adopt our Loki. The name idea being he would be “low key”. He has been a blessing.

The staff helped us through the process and offered suggestions on what items we would need for our first dog. I really appreciated how serious they took COVID-19. I would highly recommend this location.

  2. We adopted all three of our babies at the Golden Valley Humane Society throughout the years! They all had their vaccines and surgeries needed prior to adopting! We love going back and visiting the other animals. The volunteers and employees are passionate about caring for these animals and finding them forever homes.

  3. We adopted Umami (previously called Winter) in October and he has brought us so much happiness. He is the friendliest, sweetest, most talkative cat ever! Adopting through Golden Valley Humane Society was so quick and painless. We met Umi, loved him, and were able to adopt him within a few hours. They have great little enclosures that you can go inside to meet them and they are very honest with each cats needs. They are also generous enough to provide a bag of cat food with the adoption which was amazing.
When I inquired about microchipping, they were also able to do that for us that same day before we took him home.
Not to mention the free vet visit you get with their approved vet clinics all over the twin cities!
Overall it was such an amazing experience, the employees here really care about the animals and are able to adopt out a significant number of animals every day which means more get the chance to come into the shelter to find their forever home.
I will absolutely recommend them to everyone, and we are so grateful to have our sweet little Umami in our lives now.

  4. We adopted our husky “Kira” from here in September. She’s been a wonderful dog for our family. The staff made the adoption process straightforward, and everyone was great to work with. They were really busy the day we went, which made me happy. Since Kira was already spayed, we got to adopt and take her home the same day. We made sure to get her microchipped as well. At $30 it is a very reasonable cost. Great job Animal Humane Society 🙂

  5. We just got our second animal from this humane society and could not be happier. They make the process so simple and extremely exciting! We were so pleased with the staff. They even sent us a cute little post cars about a week later. I love the free vet visit they offer as well once you bring your new furry friend home. I could not recommend this place enough.

Kara has been the most AMAZING trainer for our puppy Mulder. She’s very knowledgeable, patient, flexible, and kind. After he graduated from puppy class, continuing with Kara for Intermediate was a no-brainer. Thank you so much Kara for all you’ve done for us and Mulder, we appreciate you!

Petco didn’t want to service our doggy Bella anymore due to her being so vocal and easily distracted by others around, so glad we changed to PetSmart, the groomers are really nice and so patient with Bella, will definitely keep coming here, they did a good job, happy customer happy dog mom.

We adopted Daisy (formerly known as Tamborine) about 4 weeks ago. She is doing great! Everyone we dealt with at Happy Tails was wonderful; especially the fosters! And our vet was impressed with the care that Daisy had received from your organization.

We had a very weird experience during an adoption event, and after seeing other recent reviews as well as their F with the BBB I thought I’d share. We were pressured several times to meet 2 particular dogs even though they didn’t fit with our household needs. They similarly tried pushing those two dogs on three other groups without asking what they were looking for in a companion. The staff couldn’t answer any of our questions about temperament, history, needs etc. for most of the dogs despite the fosters apparently being on site at the time. This includes dogs that have been in their care for several weeks or months. It was very strange that the fosters weren’t more involved in providing information for the animals profiles- that’s a standard practice in the industry but doesn’t seem to happen here. They continuously spoke to my husband and I like we had no idea what dog ownership was like despite our long history as dog owners and fosters. When we arrived there was a confrontation between a staff member and a prospective adopter and the staff response was really unprofessional and immature. I didn’t hear the whole incident so I won’t speak to who was in the right but regardless it was not handled well. One family finalized their adoption while we were there and the parents seemed to be really frustrated with the staff as they were signing and paying. After meeting several dogs, we sadly didn’t find one that we felt would fit with our family. As we were leaving I told the manager and staff member that primarily helped us that we’d keep our eyes on their website for future events. They both walked away from me mid-sentence without replying or acknowledging me like they were mad we weren’t completing an adoption. I saw quite a few reviews recently about sick animals: they did do a lot of work cleaning between each dog and had several other precautions to try and minimize any cross contamination between animals. This is why I gave 2 stars vs 1. I have a lot of respect for shelters and their employees, volunteers, fosters, donors, etc. It’s a REALLY tough job. But there are some easily fixable things like improving interpersonal skills and preparing better bios and information on the animals before events. The issues they have now are a disservice to their own cause and make them seem really untrustworthy.

Animal lovers- Please stay away from Happy Tails. I have never adopted from them personally, but have friends and colleagues that have. Since Happy Tails contractually prevents adopters from leaving negative reviews and threatens litigation if they do, I will do my part to assist. The bottom line is that the folks behind Happy Tails “Rescue” are responsible for selling sick dogs to kind-hearted people looking for animal companions in the Twin Cities. I know people who have adopted from Happy Tails and had their animals tragically pass within a matter of days, yet Happy Tails won’t reimburse them for pet training fees that they obviously cannot use. Happy Tails is dishonest, Happy Tails should not be in business, and if you have a dog or are interested in adopting, please warn your friends and family about Happy Tails. This post is intended to bring awareness to a “rescue” that will not be able to operate once their name become synonymous with theft, fraud and ineptitude. Please, post and share this where you feel necessary.

!!DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!! The dog my best friend adopted from here DIED WITHIN 2 WEEKS from distemper. When my friend went to pick up the dog after being spayed, the dog was covered in her own feces and having sinus & breathing problems. No one at Happy Tails cared to clean the animal or provide necessary medical care to check for a possible infection. This dog was around multiple other animals at an adoption event and either contracted the virus at the event, or likely spread it to other animals. After multiple Emergency Vet visits within just a few days of adoption, Happy Tails is refusing to provide any financial assistance, refund for adoption fees, or refund the cost of the training classes that they never had a chance to attend. TLDR; Adoptees beware. Happy Tails has an F from the BBB, adopts out sick pets, fails to provide basic care for their animals.

Kaylee is Awesome! Yes she was a chore early on. Puppy & Chewing energy to spare!! Oklahoma pup¿, party puppy, She’s a ‘girls just wanna have fun’ pup 💯% 🐶 ♥️ Dog Parks! Recommended I, however, agree the Obedience class is not anything you couldn’t pick up in a YouTube video or decent Book. “Time, Patience & Follow-through” all you need….
