  Roanoke Boutique Hotel is a gem. This is the way B&Bs should be: a lovingly crafted house, well appointed, that gives a quiet, relaxing night of rest, followed by a good breakfast. We spent three nights here while getting to know the area and attending the Jason Isbell concert in Salem. The hotel is a wonderfully restored home and the guest spaces are comfortable and relaxing. We had two breakfasts on the front porch and the third in the breakfast nook in the kitchen. We spent one afternoon lazing on the recliners on the upstairs porch watching the world go by. Diane, the owner, is engaging and It was fun talking about the house restoration; the neighborhood; and the area. Our room and bathroom were very well appointed; great bed. High recommendations from me.

  Stopped in for a single night on my way to Tennessee to break up what would have been a LONG single day road trip. I stay at b&bs often. As a solo traveler, I like the personal connection. The RBH exceeded my (high) expectations! The rehabilitated house is amazing, the guest rooms so inviting and comfortable, and the inn owner a breath of fresh air 🙂 I enjoyed my stay SO much that I returned for another overnight stay on my return trip several days later!

  My partner and I stayed at the Roanoke Boutique Hotel for one night on our way home from a 10+ day road trip. We intentionally stayed at several small hotels during our trip, and Roanoke Boutique Hotel was by far our favorite. Diane was so friendly – I’ve had experiences recently where I never actually see the host for the B&B or hotel I’m staying at, and it was great to have that face to face contact. Her little dog Frank was an absolute charmer, too. Our room (the Reed room) was quiet, comfortable, and well-stocked with everything we might need. Breakfast was AMAZING – my favorite was the non-dairy yogurt and roasted sweet potato with caramelized sugar, cinnamon and banana on top. It’s also a very walkable location to downtown Roanoke. It took us maybe 20 minutes on foot to get to Market Square for dinner. Next time we visit Roanoke, we will definitely stay here again.

  What a great experience! My girlfriends and I booked all three rooms for a birthday weekend and had an amazing time. This home is beautiful, welcoming, clean – with all of the thoughtful touches to make your stay relaxing and comfortable. Diane was wonderful! She immediately gave us a list of cool places to eat/drink and shop downtown and recommended an amazing waterfall trail that we hiked on our last day. She made us feel totally at home. We’ll definitely be back to see more, hike the trails we didn’t get to, visit with Diane, and love on sweet little Frank (the cutest pup ever)!

  The mother-in-law suite is spacious and gorgeous! We spent quite a bit of time on the porch swing in the back. Every detail was well thought out with a focus on sustainability. The host was helpful, friendly, and unobtrusive. She recommended a hike and a few breweries and we had a magnificent time.

  My husband and I recently stayed at the Black Lantern Inn for one night to attend a nearby wedding. We’ve never stayed in a bed and breakfast before, but would highly recommend this one. The innkeepers were super nice and accommodating. They made us feel instantly welcome. And the FOOD, breakfast was perfect, we weren’t sure what to expect, but it absolutely hit the spot. Cannot recommend them enough, if we go back to Roanoke, we will not think twice about where we’re going to stay. It was a perfect stay.

  Jayne and Chris are the best hosts ever. The Black Lantern Inn is a gem of a B&B in Roanoke. The Skyline room offers an amazing and convenient stay, with a nice décor and a lot of space. Bathroom is nice and equipped.

  Breakfast was made with fresh ingredients, was very flavorful and had great presentation. It was served in a covered balcony, with the birds singing in the trees outside.

  Location is perfect to get to, close enough to center city, but still quiet and private enough. Chris had lots of recommendations and helped us pick a restaurant for a Saturday dinner.

  We can recommend the Black Lantern Inn whole heartedly. Try it. You will not regret!

  Loved the Black Lantern Inn! I highly recommend staying here if you are looking at the Roanoke area. I was able to walk and bike out the door. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. And Jayne and Chris were phenomenal hosts. I’d definitely stay again!

  Best we have ever stayed in. To put that into some sort of perspective for you, since 2011 my wife and I have stayed in B&B’s in the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, throughout Europe & in Australia (our home) and, as of last night, this one tops the list. Simply the best. 5 star all the way. Chris & Jane the perfect hosts and their place is perfect.
