  While you certainly never want to be in a position to need a personal injury lawyer or representation for this type of claim, the reality is these things happen way to much and most people can’t navigate the legal system on their own.   Edit: My trustee no longer works here, I was not informed of the contact change. Sent an email with my sensitive and private situation to the original trustee which someone named Peggy forwarded onto another party in the form without my consent. I reply within minutes saying I am “mortified” by the details being shared. Not only does Peggy not respond but a few hours later, a third person I didn’t even know was Bcc’d responded. I reply all saying again I am mortified by this. Peggy said they did not realize they needed to respond to the first email where they were informed their actions mortified a client or to warn that client more than one other person was on that email. I was also informed this is because Peggy is having a busy day after the holidays. I let Peggy know that my busy day was made that much harder by being mortified by my personal email and situation repeatedly. That a Trustee firm should understand and respect privacy. That Peggy should have taken ownership. I recieved “Again, I apologize”. A severe Lack of accountability, ownership and client respect today. ———————————- After many life and medical issues, I wasn’t sure if I could be helped or if bankruptcy was even an option. Fear of getting some stuffy business person judging my mistakes held me back from seeking help. Who I got when I finally took that step was Cheryl Hodder. She was kind, patient and very understanding. She explained everything in detail and made sure I understood. I didn’t even know what a Consumer Proposal was before meeting with Cheryl. That first phone call with her gave me the first feeling of hope I had felt in a very long time. The relief after that first visit… I literally cried (bawled my face off is more accurate) while thanking her. I should not have waited.   During Covid I, like so many others, lost my job. I was on unemployment for months until I found a new job that I love but that pays me half of what I used to make. l tried so hard to keep up with my bills, paying so much in interest each month on my debt that I did not have anything left over to pay on the principal owed. Knowing there was no end in sight, I fell into a depression, couldn’t sleep, and my anxiety was through the roof. At this point I knew I had no choice but to get help for my financial problems for the sake of my mental health. I called three different licensed insolvency trustees to find the best fit for me. I knew after talking to the people at Powell Associates that I had found the people to walk me through this terrible (and for me a guilt ridden) time. There were options other than bankruptcy and they explained them all. Once I decided on bankruptcy (no choice really) I had valuable one-on-one face time with a really good financial expert. I had access to someone who knew taxes. These people taught me coping skills using online learning tools all the while answering any questions I had. I felt I could text, call, or email any time and when I did, someone always responded. The most important thing I can stress here is there was no judgement…ever! I was just this week released from my 9 month bankruptcy period with no debt. I now have tools that I did not have before that will help me in the future. Bankruptcy was not an easy decision for me (I don’t think it is for anyone) but I am truly grateful to be in a much better place financially and mentally.
