  1. Hallways smelled of mildew and mold. Room smelled of Marijuana, recently smoked. It was bad. Sketchy bad. Mattress had lumps, pillows were yellow, and mold looking substances on ceiling growing down. Bathroom door stuck open. Gap in room door was large enough to see through.

    I did not end up staying here and was not going to leave such a harsh review. I requested to cancel stay/reservation after seeing the room and after slight attitude from front desk, they agreed to cancel stay and not charge me. However, I wake up this morning to see I’ve been charged!

    Will be reaching out to Expedia who suggested the room to see what action they can take. Long story short I would avoid this chain like the plague. Figuratively and literally, it was gross y’all.

  2. I enjoyed my stay! Very friendly staff and I appreciated the updates throughout the hotel and my room. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was very clean. My room included a free breakfast entree at the attached restaurant and really enjoyed their breakfast tacos. Overall great value for the price of the room and food.

  3. The hotel needs some renovations, for sure. I was told they are in the middle of renovating the pool room, but in the rooms I rented, the curtains were torn and one of the lamps was chipped and broken. The beds seemed pretty worn out too, so they might want to look into getting some new mattresses. The manager did send an email that they’d look at my concerns, so that’s good. Hopefully they take it seriously.

  4. Check in was faster than any hotel we’ve ever stayed at, which was a nice surprise after traveling! Our room was clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful! Our boys were very happy that the pool was open until 11!

  5. Appears the building is not being cared for. Bathroom contain dirty towel pushed back under the sink counter. Smoke detector had no battery. Raining and water was pouring through the windows near lobby and a door not fair from that spot. Desk attendant seem not trained on process and information. Beware, there’s no complementary Breakfast. Night Desk attendant gave us vouchers cards. Cards was only good for a few dollars off. Next morning Attendant said he didn’t know that the Hotel worked out something but wasn’t sure. Night time attendant also said the voucher card could be presented the Hampton Hotel for extra early. Morning attendant contradicted that and said no. Not a good place stay for the amount of money. Poor communication between the staff.

    Every time my husband and I are traveling to see family we always go to the Hilton Garden Inn! They have wonderful staff who are willing to help you with whatever they can. The rooms are always clean when we arrive and are kept clean thanks to the cleaning crew. The pool, exercise room, and laundry room are also well maintained. I also love that they keep our safety in mind as well when it comes to locked doors late at night if you don’t have a key. I also think it’s a plus because even though you have to park in a parking garage, they give you a ticket and you get 5 free parking passes so you don’t have to pay the $12-$20 dollar fee. Saves time and money. This hotel is the best. It’s kid and even pet friendly. I recommend it to everyone.

    Very conveniently located right downtown, this location is minutes away from the heart of Iowa City, the University of Iowa and the historic Iowa River area. The area around this newer hotel is also fairly clean and modern with a small voting area directly out front. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful and when my aunt stayed here a couple weeks ago, helped her to find her way or she was going and made a positive impression on her. Her room was quite nice and modern, very well appointed with the sliding barn door bathroom and the largest television I’ve seen in a hotel. The restaurant on the top floor is fairly nice and each time I’ve eaten there have gotten pretty darn good food. The Vue is really fantastic and worth the trip.

    Room was very nice and clean. Great for traveling with a baby. There’s a nice little closet space to put the pack and play and then plug in any monitors or sound machines. They were very accommodating to my family and gave us a connecting room and put us all together. The elevators were annoying because they had long wait times, so we started taking the stairs if we could. The breakfast wasn’t very good for having to pay $11. Good location for everything downtown.

    Came down to iowa city for a state swim meet. I was very impressed at the cleanliness of the room, everything about the room was spotless. For any people wondering, they have DirecTV and HBO so they offer a good selection of movies to watch. Breakfast is what impressed me the most, the food is very good and the selection is great. Not to mention the luxurious, rooftop restaurant. The upstairs has amazing food, for a very impressive price for being a fancy restaurant, and the service was great. We will definitely be coming back next year!
