  1. Having our 5 year old daughter join the Black Label Gym is by far the best decision we made since arriving here to Charleston last year. In less than a year, our daughter has developed amazing self-defense skills, confidence, patience and discipline. On top of that, their program has turned our baby girl into a JiuJitsu Champion! They are absolutely passionate at instructing our kids and at any age or level. Professor Malachy, the head instructor, showed how much his program genuinely means to him when he attended our daughter’s 2022 Pan Kids IBJJF Competition back in July. Our daughter was the only one representing the gym at the time and he literally went the extra mile to make sure our daughter was successful. Only hours prior to the competition he instructed a seminar in Vegas and had fly all the way to Florida just to coach our daughter. His efforts allowed our daughter to walk away as this years Pan Kids Champion. A lot of the parents are truly grateful for the program and I personally have complete trust and confidence in them. Our daughter is the only one participating in the program, but we feel as if we are part of a huge family. It’s rare to find something this special. Thank you Black Label Martial Arts!

  2. We are truly blessed to have found Black Label two years ago. Our daughter lacked confidence and it’s amazing how much she has grown since joining. The coaches are dedicated to each child’s journey and they go out of their way to ensure that every child knows they are supported. Professor Malachy has developed an outstanding youth BJJ program and I would recommend this martial arts school to anyone.

  3. I have been going to this gym for 6 months now. Extremely intimidating to walk in for the first time, but this gym really is tribe and the kind of people that want you to be better. Malachy Friedman is excellent with kids, and a great role model for them. As for adults Malachy Friedman will push you to be better and do better every class. My anxiety issues outside the gym have nearly disappeared and Im in best shape of my adult life. My biggest regret is not joining the gym sooner.

  4. Best Martial Arts Gym/Academy in Charleston and and surrounding areas by far!! My wife, 2 kids and myself have been training here for 5+ years now and it is super family friendly. The youth Jiu-Jitsu program has proven to be a on level of it’s own within the state of SC as well as Savanah, GA. At least visit or sign up for a free trial class if you are considering other options or comparing which gym is best for you or your child.

  5. My whole family has been going to this gym for years now. We absolutely love it! The coaches, the people, the classes, the atmosphere, the learning environment, it has changed our family for the better. The Jiu Jitsu classes are top tier along with the Muay Thai and Boxing. I highly recommend it.

    I’ve been going to Tick Tock since 2019 and wish I had started sooner! I always told myself I never had enough time so why get started. Maybe I am too old to start now, it’s a young mans game. What ever the excuse was I finally decided to just ignore the excuses and Get After It! Age doesn’t matter. Level of fitness doesn’t matter. Too Busy? Doesn’t matter either! Do I make it as often as I want? Absolutely not. But when I do make it am I surrounded by amazing humans, a phenomenal coach with REAL BJJ competition experience and also a great dude? Damn right I am! I am also challenged to be better. I am put into stressful situations that teach me to remain calm under pressure. I am offered opportunities to better protect myself and those I care about should a situation warrant it. I am given an opportunity to build confidence, friendships and a welcome side effect of getting in shape. Jiu Jitsu is life and if you’re looking for a better life than Tick-Tock Jiu-Jitsu is where you start!

    Can’t say enough good things about Tick-Tock. Great coaching and training partners. Plenty of classes throughout the week to fit any schedule. Definitely worth checking out if you’re new to the area or just trying out jiu jitsu.

    I’ve been training at Tick Tock for the better part of a year and it has honestly been a great experience. Jacob is an excellent professor. He is very detail oriented, yet he provides instruction everyone at all levels can use. Not a lot of flashy, trendy moves but techniques that are proven to work and make sense. His main goal for everyone is to make progress. The atmosphere in the academy is one where everyone can learn and have fun all the way from the newest white belt all the way up to black. Everyone in the gym is cool, no crazy egos or knuckleheads. Training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, but its also been one of my favorite things ive ever done. I’m glad I’m doing it here at Tick Tock.

    I cannot say enough positive things about this gym. Tick Tock is a great place to train with all belt levels throughout the week. Plenty of class times to choose from so theres no excuse to not make it in. Relaxed enviornment, yet you are pushed to become better each day. Coach Jacob is a great instructor with a clear passion for his sport and it shows and shines down into his students. 5+

    If you want to learn and get better at jiu jitsu, Tick Tock is the place to be! What you will find here is excellent, conceptual instruction from coach Jacob McClintock regardless of your skill level in a clean and modern facility with tons of mat space! Everyone in the gym is very welcoming but will push you to your limits in training! What you won’t find is sketchy contracts, excessive formal traditions, and big egos. If you’ve trained before and are looking for a new place to call home, or are wanting to jump into the sport, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t give Tick Tock BJJ a try!

Dave’s instruction is excellent. He was clear, concise, and totally approachable. 1000% would recommend to any woman looking to build a serious tool box of highly effective self-defense moves.

    This place is amazing. The instructors are super knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone who works out here is extremely supportive. Great mix of different levels in each class. Doesn’t even feel like working out. Just feels good learning how to defend myself.
