What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Love this part of beach. Fishing is great. Scenery is beautiful and the people are very friendly. The sand is very soft so be prepared aka have at least an all terrain tire if you don’t have any they have great parking spots before you go onto the beach.

  2. When I was working in Wharton,TX last summer. I was able to make a drive down to Matagorda beach for the first time ever. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. The Colorado river runs parallel with the road down to the water. You can see all the fishing boats, which is really something.

  3. Hidden gem. The beach is clean, not crowded. Beach facilities are pretty good and there are pretty nice camping grounds near by.

  4. We love going to Matagorda Beach. The surfs are always big and lots of sea shells. We love parking right there on the beach/water and popping up our tent. The sand is a little rough to drive through sometimes but with 4 wheel drive we had no problems.

  5. Nice unmanicured beach, access thru the paved road to the dunes **BE AWARE** You will need a 4×4 to access the sand or your will get stuck. Very soft sand at entrance!

We stayed at a site overlooking the water. They have nice cement pads with a pergola and cement table and benches for each site. There are very few trees but lots of grass and it was nice and breezy so it didn’t feel as hot as it could have. They just built little rental 2 and 3 bedroom apartments on the street side that were almost finished. They will be ready by the end of June. A little pricy at $250 and $350 a night. The campground doesn’t have direct access to the beach, there’s a small wall that runs along the water but the beach is right next door, walking distance. There is a welcome center with a small shop that has some little essentials but not very much. Everyone drives their cars and trucks directly on the beach! My husband overheard someone say they got stung by a jellyfish, we didn’t know they were there but had I known I wouldn’t have gotten in the water! All in all its a very well maintained clean and pretty park.

The airstream campsite is awesome. It is well maintained and comfortable. Mosquitos can be under control if you live in the RV and have spray on you outside. Be careful to let your dogs play in water besides the campsite since the sharp rocks or seashells will cut their paw pads.

This place is a true gem! I had an amazing time during my visit. The staff was fantastic, attentive to all visitors, and skillfully managed any unauthorized presence on the property, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

The park’s facilities were spotless, and its natural beauty was captivating. The thoughtful design made it a top-notch destination.

If I had to make any suggestions for improvement, it would be great to see a few more piers for fellow fishing enthusiasts like myself. Additionally, making the beach path more accessible for elderly visitors would be a thoughtful addition. While it didn’t pose any problems for younger visitors, I noticed some elderly individuals facing challenges navigating the trail.

All in all, I genuinely enjoyed my time at this place. It’s definitely a spot worth visiting, and with a few subtle enhancements, it could become an even more appealing destination for everyone to cherish. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and creating more wonderful memories at this extraordinary location.

We thought the area was beautiful and the RV park was very well kept, there is overflow parking close for visitors. The park hosts were nice and kept a good eye on things. Some nice spots to fish and sit also a pier which was nice except while we were there a family of about 20 showed up and took over the pier. That was a bummer, they had poles all over the place, kids running on and off the pier and I am sure they caught more than their legal amount. They need a second pier a bit bigger than what they have. The beach is not a far walk from the RV site and its really nice. Fishing was good and we managed to catch a few. The biggest problem that they have are mosquitos !!!! OMG they will swarm you. So do not forget the bug spray or a light to kill them, I kid you not they are bad!!!! The RV park is very dog friendly as well but spray your fur babies for the mosquitos. Night time was quiet. All in all we would stay there again and I recommend you give this place a try.

First time camping & fishing. My experience having it here was a blast! My partner & I even caught a shark! Clean bathrooms & beautiful beach. Staff at the help center were nice too. Definitely would come back. Only sad part was the pier was locked off but I’m sure it was for certain reasons. Thanks again!

Love this place. Quite during the off seasons to just walk the beach. Beach is not scrapped so LOTS of soft sand, so be prepared and know when high tides are. Shells can be found here from the shore to the dunes.

Cool place. I think we came when the waves were really high and rolling but people were still in the water having a great time. Also this beach is patrolled. Which gives us a little comfort

I like simple. On a crowded day don’t like seeing families leave their trash from day of fishing and picnicking, but if you can go on off days it’s a delight to walk the beach with just you and the birds.
