2 months agoMore often than not, you will find no carts or baskets available at the entrance — they are rarely collected and reset by the employees throughout the day.Sometimes, entire sections are nearly empty of stock, such as lettuces (see photo) and frozen items.
The ancient security guard doesn’t notice liquor bottles walking out the door unpaid. The other security guard is outside in the parking lot, smoking and chatting on the phone.
I gather they have a pretty hard time hiring for this location — the cashier staff is largely out to lunch. Long queues form after work hours, and on weekends.

3 months ago3/27/21: It was not busy. Clean. The staff on the deli are nice. May, 2021. Tasty deli sandwiches. Good frozen foods. 8/7/23: Clean well organized store. Good helpful deli, salad, & sandwich 🥪 workers.2 weeks agoToday a man in the sandwich making department called a Blackman a monkey as he waved his knife and smirked at him. The black man’s wife and little girl was standing right there. Gladly the worker was removed from his duties and fired! Thanks to another woman who posted the whole incident live. Racism is bad, now you got to watch who making your food these days. Diamond heights need better people. The manager was great!2 months agoI only shop here because it’s close to home. The lines are often unbearably long and slow. You also have to wait sometimes over 10 minutes to get locked up items. And then they insist on putting it on the checkout aisle that they select. Tired of being penalized for buying high-end goods!(Update: Response to Safeway‘s comments. I started by trying to contact you directly, and every time I attempted to send a contact us email, it wouldn’t submit it and it just sat there. I wasn’t sure if it sent or not, so I attempted to submit it about 3 times.)
3 months agoAs usual, the ad items are sold out. This is a constant thing with this location!?!? 75% of the time I go there, this happens. I give up. And of course, “Customer Service” was closed too… Broken glass in the parking lot also says a lot, car break ins are common here.But hey, at least the staff are rude and unhelpful…..

3 months agoI literally only come to the tenderloin to visit this store. It has the best prices by far compared to its neighbors. On top of that they have MY FAVORITE CAPUCHINO ITS ITS FULLY STOCKED DAILY! They NEVER run out. I can’t help but visit 3 to 4 times a week for one. Along with the kindest service you’re missing out if you haven’t visited this diamond in the rough.5 months agoI stored my luggage here through a third party app and from start to finish the experience was lovely! Everyone was super friendly and accomodating, even letting me use their phone hotspot when I needed to access internet. Would definitely recommend!5 months agoThe guys here are really sweet! I visit this store often and am always impressed with how clean and well stocked the store is. Also they went as far as ordering a certain product once I asked about it. Downtown Grocery is a step above any local corner store with its customer service and products!6 months agoI’ve been with this grocery family since they were on 6th Street they moved over to Eddy Street and I moved to Eddy Street shortly after I’m so glad to be able to do my small store business with them they have the best snacks at the best prices and if you’re looking for a great deal on hoodies do-rags phone accessories and everything in between they have it. They also have the biggest selection of ice cream in the area but aside from all of that if it wasn’t for the friendly welcoming they all provide from tall to small, then they’d be just one of the others but the warmness you get makes you feel like one of their own. Thanks Jamal and family! Ps this was not a paid review lol I can’t believe I forgot to mention the slushy machine! This store also has the best slush flavors around they are sweet and tart balanced perfectly I mean how could you beat the best flavors at the best prices! I hardly ever leave without one!

-good variety of products in every category letting me choose how healthy/expensive I want to run on my produce. I usually get alot of their frozen vegetables since their dirt cheap with more variety than the usual carrots, peas, corn staples you find at most other places and they last longer with the nutrition for the most part intact.
Downside is even though they have a parking lot, it is always full with a line waiting to get in.
10-11am 10/29/23 The lovely gentleman who was helping me find oat bars in the freezer section was genuinely kind. It’s hard to find those types nowadays! I wanted to give him a shoutout for going in the back freezer and finding me substitute sandwich bars for me. What a kind guy whoever raised him up raised him with respect and proper manners!
Classic traders Joe with a comparable larger parking spot for TJ. If you shop with a car, that is a good place to go!
Have been going to the Trader Joes on Masonic and have consistently had excellent service. I only wish that the Korean Sushi would be available. I seem to miss it by a day. My family loves receiving TJ’s items. Thank you!
They fixed freezers since I was here last! Woohoo! Now a great grocer. Love this store. It is crowded often but staff keeps lines moving. There is often a wait for parking which backs up onto Masonic during peak hours. There is a trader Joe’s parking area just south of main parking. This is the corner of Masonic and Geary and is marked for trader Joe’s parking. There is no security on this lot, but area is heavily trafficked and is less likely to have problems than many areas of the city. Of course Sf is great for walking and transit and has the 38 series of busses along with many smaller routes serving this intersection.
