What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. We stayed at the Grand for the 4th weekend and we had such a great time! The location was perfect, Walking distance to the beach! The hotel is beautiful, Clean and smelt so good! The food was amazing! We never left the hotel! The pool was great! Service was wonderful everyone was so friendly. My only “bad” thing was the doors to get into the rooms were hard to open, our pillows smelt weird, and they could have done a better job with the firework show- but other than that is was a wonderful stay!

  2. My husband and I stayed here for July 4th. We were incredibly pleased with the entire experience. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was amazing and had great service, the pool is super romantic at night. Everything was really perfect. No need to even leave the hotel unless you just want to.

  3. Paid over $500 for one night in the ocean view room. The view and the lobby are both beautiful. I enjoyed the stay and would give 5 stars, but it’s not quite there. It’d be great if there was a separate pool for kids / families – you can’t really relax when kids are splashing water on everyone and throwing footballs errantly around the pool. The amount of flies at the pool and in the restaurant was pretty obnoxious, too – I think you can solve that with fly traps. I’m looking forward to when Marriott takes over next month

  4. Crisp Elegance!

Recently renovated hotel that is making classic Art Deco and brightness work well.

Two in our party that met with three other adults to enjoy an afternoon drink and conversation.

Lobby bar with rich mahogany, tight darker carpeting and comfortable seating areas – open and semi-private. So there are seating options for as much privacy and social engagement as desired.

Energetic staff with great service. Drinks were on point with the the right balance of flavors with alcohol. Classic drinks to today’s standards. Reasonably priced for such a great setting.

We walked around to take in the terrific tile work on the floors, the ornate doors, live plants and other decorative aspects.

Stay here if you want to spoil yourself or visit for a drink to do the same.

  5. Got this hotel as a weekend getaway. As soon as we walked into our room there was a wet carpet stain in our room and there was a scent of fish or spoilage in the room. Come to find out the smell was coming from our pillows. Next day we were expecting fresh towels and our room to be cleaned but no one ever came and when we requested for someone to come they just gave us towels. Makes me wonder if they even cleaned our room before check in. Found out there were other families going through the same thing. A families took hadn’t been ready for 6 hours and luggage was lost… other than that great location. Aesthetics can’t beat customer service and this hotel definitely doesn’t have that. Save your money and go to a different hotel.

I was a little worried reading some of these reviews…but aside from the one elevator for the whole hotel (this needs to be addressed it seems to have been a while) the stay was wonderful. From the front desk, I wish I got their names, to the pool bar ,and the breakfast restaurant. Everyone was super nice. The rooms were clean and cute. Now this is a waterfront hotel. Everything is wet and well….smells so. Me it doesn’t bother me. I enjoyed the top floor gulf view balcony. The breakfast was reasonably priced and did the trick.
I would definitely stay here again. Also love the pool. And so close to everything.

Advertised as a 4 star hotel. I’ve seen 3 star hotels that are much cleaner and nicer on the inside. It’s an old hotel and it shows. I’d say it’s more like a 2 star hotel to be honest. Hairs all over the bathroom. Carpet in room smelt funny. Used cups. Dirty balcony. Staff were helpful at front desk. No complimentary breakfast. Not worth the money.

Love this location when I come to galveston! Have stayed 3 years in a row and will definitely be back. The front desk always goes above and beyond to make the stay more enjoyable! The only issue was the air conditioner was a bit too loud to sleep good. Didn’t notice during the day. I didn’t mention it during my stay but I wish i would have.

We had such a great stay! Every single employee was so kind and really seemed invested in the hotel. We had a lot of fun on our girls trip. The saltwater pool was awesome, and the swim up bar was super fun. I travel frequently and encountering stuff like this is very rare. I can’t wait to come back … oh my gosh and the warm cookies!!

I’ve stayed twice in the past month and there are some issues that could be easily addressed by management but aren’t for unknown reasons. The Pros. The views from the balcony, and I understand all rooms have balconies , are lovely. Water Front views of the Gulf and swimming pool views are a bonus with the added benefit of night views of the Amusement Pier. Beds and linens were clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly.
Cons- The Bathroom needed some attention. Two burned out light bulbs and dirty chalking surrounding the bathtub/shower which could easily be corrected but isn’t.
There is only one working elevator and the wait times are excessive. We came during the week, can’t imagine the wait on a busy weekend. The other elevator is out of order and has been for quite awhile.
The breakfast buffet left something to be desired . Eggs bland (plain scrambled eggs), food not kept to proper temperature, toaster doesn’t toast and they are aware of this but it doesn’t get repaired. Buffet was expensive for the quality and selection ($17.32 per person) but plentiful since it was self serve. They DO have a menu but you have to ask for it as obviously they want you to buy the buffet breakfast.
The swimming pool has fabulous potential but is in need of surface refinishing with excessive amounts of rust on the plaster, the sofa and lounge cushions are very soiled and virtually no service for drinks poolside. The swim-up bar is poorly managed. The server was not attentive to the needs of the customers and each time I looked over there were 3-5 people sitting around it with empty glasses, no food, and no server. Also no customer coolers or outside drinks or food allowed in. Such a missed opportunity in so many
These issues are easily remedied with proper inspection, management & follow up but I don’t see this happening at this location. Sadly, because the potential for a perfect holiday is there.
Lastly we’re in our 70’s. I asked upon checkin to be located close to the elevator. As a Diamond member an upgrade could have easily been made to accommodate my request but wasn’t and indeed the room farthest away from the one working elevator was assigned to us
We expect a certain quality from Hilton that we’ve become accustomed to. This property doesn’t meet those expectations.
I have hopes these issues get addressed because it has potential to be our Go-to place in Galveston. Next time we will try another Hilton property on the island as there are several to choose from.

Love this beach in Galveston. Location is great . Condo was clean and comfortable however owner needs to do more maintenance. Sink faucet very loose. No way to figure out internet unless you log in through your reservation. No beach towels to exchange even though there is an exchange system by the pool but you have to have the owner leave you the towels. No beach umbrella to rent (they were all gone ) it was not clear to get the beach package in advance. I wish there was more communication about the beach umbrella package in advance . Nice place overall

I have been staying at the Galvestonian with my family for almost 20 years. It has changed over the years, I wouldn’t say the changes have made my stay more enjoyable but are probably necessary to create an environment for the majority of the guest. For example, trash was collected daily in the past which I liked, now it’s collected upon request. I only stayed 3 nights this last time so I never requested that it be collected. I also remember more than the trash being collected, fresh towels were provided daily, beach towels were provided at the pool, and music was allowed at the pool. But new polices are in place because some probably had their music too loud, some children probably got too loud, the cost of many daily services probably got too high. Even with the new policies it’s still the best place to stay. You are on the beach, all rooms face the gulf and have balconies (some have bay and gulf views from balconies). I checked other places this month and for what you get I think it’s worth the price.

My large family & I have been guests multiple times, at the Galvestonian for over 23 years, we have seen many changes, and took them in stride, even though we often felt them to be onerous. In June, I recommended the Galvestonian to a coworker, only to learn later, they had a terrible time, and complained about excessive rules, they felt like they were in a prison camp. I was quite embarrassed and so filled with regret, I couldn’t apologize enough to my coworker. My family and extended family are now planning a trip to Galveston, so today, I decided to read the reviews, and I even called the front desk, to ask a few clarifying questions. I spoke to a woman, who was a bit rude & condescending, along with stating she’s only worked at the Galvestonian for 3 weeks, but she confirmed all the new rules. Apparently, the Board of Directors are making all these new rules, and they really don’t care about the paying guest, or whether they have a pleasant stay anymore. So, I booked another place, it was really nice, while it lasted Galvestonian. Honestly, why would anyone want to rent a condo there anymore?

Been coming here for 10 years this will be the last! Front desk people are rude! No oversight! Ran out of chairs! No more coffee in the afternoon! No amenities. Weird restrictive towel limits. No music at the pool.

Woah. This place used to be great but now they are hoarding towels, Rationing coffee and cleaning fluid apparently. I cannot believe how rude and miserly this place became. Too bad. It feel like being at church camp, tons of rules restrictions and power happy staff … but without the fun. Ugh. What a bummer. One staffer actually dug through the towel bin to try to verify I had the right count of towels to exchange – in front of my shivering 6 yr old! And to think people pay to stay here. Not for long.
