What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. They had the things I wanted! Great staff they were all kind! Pet salamander was great! He/she ( we can’t tell yet ) is happy the guy showed us how to feed him and got us so blood worms an pellets

  2. I was impressed by how well stocked they were. I found the perfect 27 gallon cube aquarium with stand combo to do a busy, backwater pond aquascape with the manzanita branches I already had. It’s still a work in progress. But the red cherry shrimp I also purchased are very happy with it. I was impressed by the high color grade of B&B’s cherry shrimp. I went back for a 15 gal tank+stand combo that’ll be the perfect permanent setup for my blue dream cherry shrimp that are surviving in my spare 3 gal quarantine tank right now. Staff were very helpful and prices were reasonable. I’ll definitely go back.

  3. They have been here in Mobile for decades and are always well stocked and knowledgeable. The only place locally I’m aware of that can help if you are stuck feeding live prey as well. The kids love to visit with us every time we go to see the birds, fish, reptiles, invertebrates, and all the other pets visiting too.

  4. My autistic 4 year old loves this store. Sensory overload for him (in a good way). Hopefully, B&B will be around for my grandkids to visit. I remember going on a field trip to B and B in the third grade (1996) and a man in his early 20’s with a slight lisp gave us a presentation on snakes, hamsters, and birds. He also gave us a tour of the aquatic area. Hopefully he is doing well wherever he is. He did a good enough job for me to remember his presentation YEARS later.

  5. The employees were very helpful and nice, especially the young lady helping me with getting a Budgie, on 6/8/23. The store seems well stocked and fairly clean for a busy pet shop. I am a longtime experienced and educated pet bird owner, so my main complaint would be that the different kinds of birds are crowded into enclosures and cages that are too small and close together. But at least the enclosures were being cleaned in early afternoon when I was there and hopefully the normal routine is that it’s done at least twice a day. The young lady who helped me was more knowledgeable about birds than I honestly expected and we had a really good conversation that showed me she was very interested in her job and the birds under her care. The crowding situation is not her fault, so I give her 5 stars! The beautiful little male Budgie I brought home is visually healthy and active so far, so I am happy about my purchase and would shop there again.

Went to donate a few items and I thought the ladies in the office were very nice and friendly! Had no issues in making my donations. Also I got to say, I have to give a shout-out at the person who responds to the reviews (mainly the negative reviews). It’s refreshing to see a business tell their side of the story and also it’s a little entertaining to read!

Very unprefessional, and unkept. My mom went in to get a dog after our family dog of 14 years passed away and they had her wait while they called every vet around for records. We have moved multiple times in the last 6 years due to medical treatments, which means multiple vets NOT in the are. We also tried explaining that me and my husband helped take the dog to the vet because she doesn’t drive and that his visits were under our name but that didn’t matter. We didn’t get to even see the dogs, and my mom is heart broken. We have 27 acers and a giant fenced in area, and we take our kids to the park right next to a dog park almost three times a week. She makes her dogs truly apart of the family and and is a great owner, just wanted to give a dog a good home. We wanted to adopt from a shelter but I am probably just going to buy a dog from a breeder now because I want her to have a new dog and this experience has been so frustrating that I don’t want to go back to an SPCA again.

Filled out application for pet they never contacted to let us know if they accepted our stuff. Workers were rude on the phone. Coming from someone who works at a vet I will not be recommending them for adoptions. Ended up going with wags and whiskers they were nice and responded within 24hours the name is under Kelsi Huggins in regards to Bosley

These are very hard working folks who do a great job with the animals under their care. I have borrowed cat traps from this SPCA on multiple occasions and they make this process quick and easy (and free with returnable deposit). I am really glad for this resource as these traps are very expensive. The people leaving a one star review for every dumb reason under the sun have no idea how rescue operates or how hard these people work. Their cats and dogs are well cared for and are excellent options if you are looking to adopt.

I arrived and asked to see who they had available for adoption. I was told I could not even visit with the pups available until I fill out an adoption application. I asked again to be sure I heard her correctly. Once she confirmed, I said, “okay, thank you”. I was not offered an application, I was not directed where to go to fill one out online, I was simply disregarded as she made her way into, what I assume she felt, would be a more interesting conversation. I should have known considering my experience with them years ago when I was denied an adoption experience due to being a single working parent and not having “adequate time” by their standards. Judging by their combative and defensive response in recent poor reviews, I assume I should fully expect a keyboard full from them. Unfortunately, their responses accurately reflect the attitude I received that day when I visited…. I suggest going up the road to MCAS where your visit alone will be greatly appreciated and your experience is much more pleasant.

After finding two stray pit bulls that had clearly been starved nearly to death, the county picked them up and took them to this shelter. I waited with the dogs for a little over 2 hours, feeding them and wanting to cry, watching how hungry and grateful they were – so I got attached. After they took the dogs, I stopped by the shelter a few times to check on them. They went from complete skeletons with enormous heads to nearly normal looking pits in about 2.5 weeks. The vet saw the dogs, and they were OK. Overall, I was pleased with the staff, their attentiveness to the animals and their treatment of me – the crazy dog lady. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because they have NOTHING setup to post animals, donate funds, let folks peruse the babies looking for homes…I had to struggle to figure out how to make a donation. If I lived in the area, I would volunteer to help them set something up and take a mad leap into the new millennium. They are missing a HUGE fundraising potential. Anyway, the pits recovered and are now up for adoption. They are so sweet and loving and deserve a good home. They spent the first part of their lives being tortured by some sick m**** f**** and they still managed to love people. They deserve a good human who will show them what love is. Merry Christmas

Well kept but hate having someone follow you around when you’re trying to look at the pups. You feel pressured and in a hurry.

This is a shelter that doesn’t take strays. I’m so confused as to why it’s called a shelter if it’s soul purpose isn’t to shelter those who don’t have homes. This establishment is a joke and most likely is the reason why Mobile residents don’t save animals. We have no avenues to take them to other than rescues. Even then it’s hard to get ahold of rescues. A shelter is put in place for situations where animals are abandoned, found, or injured. It’s supposed to be a public service. Instead it’s just an adoption center and who knows where they get their animals if it’s not from the public.
