What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. What an experience!! I recently broke my leg at the beach and then I included going back to beach as part of my recovery. It’s been a long journey and I still have a long road ahead of me, but I walk by faith! I chose to go back over there with my husband to walk on the jetty for the very first time and I have absolutely no regrets! The big rocks at the end of the jetty though were challenging for me, but anyone with two legs that can walk would enjoy everything about this place. We got to see porpoises swimming along with ship and got to enjoy seeing all the fisherman posted up along the jetty. It’s great to see couples and families enjoying this place. The seagulls are very entertaining, too. You won’t regret visiting this place. If you want to barbeque, there’s pits there. If you want to sit down and rest after walking all the way down the jetty and back, there’s picnic tables to relax. If you want to fish, you are able to. Just be careful at the very end where the big boulders are, especially kiddos. Hold their hands so they don’t fall in between the cracks. Watch out for spiders lol!! ???? If there’s people behind you and you want to enjoy walking a bit slower, let them pass and show kindness. Enjoy the Jetty!

  2. Super great place for fishing. Never have I’ve gone home without a fish. Clean and plenty of trash cans available. Also a great place for family events. Cover patios and grills available for burgers or live catches? A must for true fishermen.

  3. Great place to fish. There’s plenty of room, even when there is a crowd and there are rod holders in some places (best to bring your own). There’s plenty of parking and restrooms are available. I wish Quintana and Galveston would follow suit and level the top of their jetties so bank fishermen could walk out there, too. Grab some sun block, a hat, chair, and fishing gear. Good times!

  4. I went here for my uncles bday and it was nice! The sand was nice and clean and the water was clean but really cold.I built a sand castle with no one destroying it????

  5. This is a great place to good it was not too crowded. I think I would want to make a weekend of it. Not just a day.

Thrifty Traveler’s Guide: Exploring Texas on a Budget

Traveling to Texas on a budget is possible with some careful planning and smart choices. Here are some tips to help you stay on a budget while traveling to Texas:

  1. Flexible Travel Dates: If possible, be flexible with your travel dates. Airfare and accommodation prices can vary significantly depending on the time of year and day of the week.
  2. Affordable Accommodation: Look for budget-friendly accommodation options such as hostels, motels, or budget hotels. Consider staying in less touristy areas or suburbs, where prices tend to be lower.
  3. Public Transportation: Utilize public transportation or rideshare services instead of renting a car. Many Texas cities have efficient public transit systems that can save you money on transportation costs.
  4. Free and Low-Cost Attractions: Texas offers numerous free and low-cost attractions, such as parks, museums with free admission days, hiking trails, and city tours. Take advantage of these to explore the state without breaking the bank.
  5. Local Eateries: Skip expensive restaurants and opt for local eateries, food trucks, or markets that offer affordable and delicious meals. Trying local cuisine can be a fun and budget-friendly way to experience Texas culture.
  6. Pack Snacks and Water: Carry snacks and refillable water bottles to avoid overpriced food and drinks at tourist spots.
  7. Discounts and Coupons: Look for discounts and coupons on attractions, activities, and restaurants. Many websites and apps offer deals for travelers.
  8. Free Events and Festivals: Check out local event listings for free festivals, concerts, and cultural events happening during your visit.
  9. Budget Airlines: If you’re flying to Texas, consider budget airlines that offer lower fares. Just be mindful of extra fees for baggage and other add-ons.
  10. Group Discounts: If you’re traveling with friends or family, inquire about group discounts for attractions and activities.
  11. Stay with Friends or Family: If you have friends or family in Texas, consider staying with them to save on accommodation costs.
  12. Avoid Peak Tourist Season: Traveling during the off-peak season can lead to lower prices for accommodation and activities.
  13. Cook Your Own Meals: If you have access to a kitchen, consider preparing some of your meals, which can be more cost-effective than eating out for every meal.

By implementing these budget travel tips, you can enjoy your trip to Texas without overspending and make the most of your time exploring the state’s diverse attractions and natural beauty.

We love going to the Sea Center. It’s very small. There is an area where children can touch shells, crabs, and other underwater creatures. This area is fully air conditioned.

There is a tour of the hatchery available. I found it pretty interesting. However, my 7yo granddaughter was kind of bored. More talking than ‘hands on’ type tour. Plus, part of it is outside. Even inside, the hallway is basically the only area air conditioned. It takes about an hour.

There is a small Boardwalk through the Wetlands, but it was June and hot, and that’s for another day.

It’s all Volunteer ran and free (although donations are greatly appreciated!) There is a very small gift shop. Bathrooms were spotless.

This is a really neat place to take the children. They have a petting tank. You can also walk out on a trail that goes through a reserve to a pier. You are able to take tours of the hatchery when they are g given. The park is free or donation. There is a fee to see the hatchery. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

This hatchery is a nice place for families. There were several tanks with several different native species of fish. The most interactive exhibit included live crabs (spider and hermit). The presenter was very knowledgeable and friendly. The hatchery tour was about 30 minutes long. The tour detailed how the hatchery began and the breeding cycle of the fish.

This place was absolutely amazing. It’s free to get in but donations are appreciated. We waited to do the tour of the hatchery which I highly recommend. There were 11 of us for the tour and we all enjoyed it and learned a lot. It’s amazing to see the volunteer work a lot of these individuals put into the center and the passion they have for it.

A unique local experience and a walk down memory lane. Perfect for young ones, enough to see and learn about without being too long a visit. The touch tank is great too! Plus it’s free!

We loved Surfside Beach! It was beautiful and small. It was not crowded. We went at sunrise (over the beach) and in the evening. There is a water/shower area to rinse off the sand. Parking is free and very close to the beach. We really enjoyed it. We stayed in a hotel about 12 minutes away and it was an easy drive to and from the beach. We would happily return to Surfside Beach.

The beach is absolutely gorgeous. I was a little worried coming here on vacation from Kansas cause of some of the info I have seen about the beach and island. Saying it’s horrible basically….. No it’s not! It’s so pretty and laid back here. In my opinion for the price and the small town feel, it’s worth coming here over a crazy expensive packed beach town. (Also there are very few tourist here, so its not like many other beach towns I have been to. Where everyone is on top of each other, and getting mad) is the water crystal clear… No, but it’s not nasty or anything.

We had a good time at Surfside. We were here during the week in the end of June. It’s super hot but once you get down to the beach if you put up shade and play in the water it’s fine. Warm water, super nice fine sand. Good waves for body surfing, boogey boarding etc. If you drive a car in the beach it’s easy to get stuck. Don’t give it too much gas or you will dig yourself in a whole. We had some of our group drive and some of us walked from the air bnb. It was a lot of fun. We had a group of 24 that spent 3 whole days in the beach. My young daughter got stung 2 times by a jelly fish (really bad luck). Only one other person got stung during that time. If you don’t have meds or a warm shower to treat it (like a nearby air bnb) it could be problematic. Not sure if there are always so many jellies or not.

Located an hour away from Houston, Surfside beach is a perfect gateaway for beach goers and for people who does fishing and Surfing.

Surfside beach is clean and well maintained with plenty of trash cans along, and portable toilet. On summertime it does get full and packed with people enjoying its coarse white sandy beach.

The beach is also a great place to view and witness birds especially on bird migration time in Spring and Fall season.

All in all, I always enjoyed Surfside beach no matter what time of season it is!
