3 weeks agoTook my nephew yesterday for the 9am tour. It was hot, but we were expecting it, I’d recommend you bring a drink. There is a lot of shade along the tour. Overall I thought the tour was fun and informative. The wood pier wasn’t really maintained very well, I found myself tripping over the raised wood a few times. I felt like there could have been more animal attractions, the alligators and crocs were really cool, but I think I liked the kangaroos just as well. I recommend the place with 5 stars, just feel they are missing opportunities by not having more animals and maybe cleaning up wooden path.4 months agoThis was a fun experience overall for my children who were 2-6 years old. We enjoyed the many different alligator/crocodile species in the encounter. It wasn’t what we were expecting, but it’s been done very well for what it is. I recommend the guided tour and purchasing the gator pellets and veggie cups. The tour took just over an hour and a half to complete and you are able to feed the animals along the way. The tour guide also fed a few of the animals which was fun to watch and they talked about the different species etc. The “kids” running the encounter were very knowledgeable. I use the term kids because everyone was very young 20’s-30’s maybe. Not what you would have expected dealing with deadly animals. The check in was a little bit of a scramble and unorganized, but overall a great little experience. I will say it felt like a Tiger King type of backyard zoo, but with alligators, crocodiles, tortoises, goats, bison, hogs and a few other wildlife done fairly well. You can tell that they started small and have grown into what they are today. I’m sure the tours and selling of certain wildlife help to keep the place running as a sanctuary for abandoned and injured animals which they briefly talk about on the tour. Definitely a good little stop on the way back to Houston from a weekend trip to Galveston with the family.a year agoTook the kids to see and feed the animals. Your was very informative and interesting even for my 5 year old. I advise buying the carrots and food so they can get the full experience. Don’t forget to pet the goats! They are adorable and friendly4 months agoUpdate: Visited again and everything was great. Both my kids enjoyed it and staff went the extra mile to make sure we had a good time. Great place to visit.
Needs a little upkeep and water wasn’t working, but overall it was a good place to go visit. The tour guides were all amazing.
a month agoGreat experience for the littles. They loved it. Guides were very knowledgeable and personable. Kind of pricey but what isn’t these days?!

2 years agoWow, what a hidden gem! I’m so glad I discovered this area as it had so much wildlife diversity. You have to drive through a gravel road to get to your destination. I parked near the restrooms and took the bobcat trail and ventured away from the path a little and the sights were beautiful. Oh, and it’s free entry!3 years agoI was really impressed with this place! It has nice hiking areas, and a 9-mile auto tour you can drive and enjoy from your car. We saw a wild pig with her 5 baby piglets, alligators, and tons of aquatic birds! It has nice bathrooms at both the main headquarters, and the bobcat trail. It is free which makes it even better! My only wish is that they would put some gravel on the trails for people who want to push strollers. The grass is impossible to push a stroller on, and it’s hard to see the wildlife poop you might step on. I think those improvements would make it even more wonderful. I appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping this place running.2 years agoAll wildlife lovers, this is a must! You will see all the beautiful flora and fauna enjoying life. We love going to the Sea Center. It’s very small. There is an area where children can touch shells, crabs, and other underwater creatures. This area is fully air conditioned.
There is a tour of the hatchery available. I found it pretty interesting. However, my 7yo granddaughter was kind of bored. More talking than ‘hands on’ type tour. Plus, part of it is outside. Even inside, the hallway is basically the only area air conditioned. It takes about an hour.
There is a small Boardwalk through the Wetlands, but it was June and hot, and that’s for another day.
It’s all Volunteer ran and free (although donations are greatly appreciated!) There is a very small gift shop. Bathrooms were spotless.
This hatchery is a nice place for families. There were several tanks with several different native species of fish. The most interactive exhibit included live crabs (spider and hermit). The presenter was very knowledgeable and friendly. The hatchery tour was about 30 minutes long. The tour detailed how the hatchery began and the breeding cycle of the fish.
This is a really neat place to take the children. They have a petting tank. You can also walk out on a trail that goes through a reserve to a pier. You are able to take tours of the hatchery when they are g given. The park is free or donation. There is a fee to see the hatchery. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This place was absolutely amazing. It’s free to get in but donations are appreciated. We waited to do the tour of the hatchery which I highly recommend. There were 11 of us for the tour and we all enjoyed it and learned a lot. It’s amazing to see the volunteer work a lot of these individuals put into the center and the passion they have for it.
