- Reviews:So unfortunately, I won’t be returning the only reason why they received 1 stars is because of the nice man that runs the big dog kennels and his respect . I was in the little dog kennel with my 3 children , they had a dog who was sick and needed surgery ( in which I understand ) but I asked if it was possible for us to keep visiting her until she rehabilitated. The guy that runs the little dog kennel said “ let me check” so he comes back and says to me . She said no . And im like what do you mean so I go back to speak to her my self , very calmly I said Hi upon meeting her ( which I didn’t get a reply) then I continued to ask her if it was okay for me or my kids to visit till she rehabilitated. She basically yelled “NO!! nobody is allowed to see that dog . “ I just left. I felt so bad because I wanted to help another animal and I had bought my cat 2 years ago from here and the people were so much nicer , this place sincerely is disrespectful and for the 200+ dogs they have in there with no home , they really need to reconsider their attitudes . Because that shows how you really treat them behind closed doors .By Laria Clarke (3 months ago)The place has no a strange vibe. I wanted to volunteer after losing my dog. They expressed zero interest. The Dog kennel smelled worse than any I’ve been in. One staff was banging metal bowls on their cells and YELLING at them. Plus it’s no kill so some will spend a decade under these conditions. The place would be awesome but Mismanaged beyond redemption at this pointBy Benjamin Ozegowsky (in the last week)It pains me to leave this review but I am absolutely devastated and disgusted by this organization. Last Monday my mothers 17 year old cat became very sick and we immediately brought her to be put to sleep and end her suffering after finding out our vet charges an exorbitant fee for euthanasia. We were turned away and told we needed an appointment. I then called in and spoke to Pamela, who I believe is the director, and explained how our cat is blind, emaciated, bleeding from multiple orifices, not eating, and doesn’t use the litter box anymore. She made me an appointment for Friday at 2:30pm. We bring the poor baby to the appointment and the vet, after briefly “examining” the cat (basically touched her in a couple spots) pronounces that the cat is not ready to go and we should take her to the very for treatment. Absolutely cruel and disgusting!! I’m no animal or medical professional but I know a dying animal when I see one. The poor thing is suffering and we had to bring her back to my mother twice!! Imagine my mother’s broken heart after saying goodbye twice only for the cat to be returned and told “she’s not ready”. Now my mother wont take her to the vet for fear she will be returned home again, so we must wait for our poor pet of 17 years to die at home. The vet that works here should be ashamed of herself! What an absolute embarrassment to send a sick dying animal back home. It’s cruel! Shame on you!By Silvio Lavrador (Investor & Realtor) (3 weeks ago)I just wished they told us the sibling kittens had herpes at least my daughter and i would not be mislead. After a week the staff member admitted the cats eyes were being treated for herpes when they originally came in. Both of them probably have it now. I told them my daughter was heartbroken after her last newly adopted pet died almost after she got it and spent close to 2 thousand. Very dissapointed in the dishonesty. I know these loving creatures need a home so we will do our best. Lifelong meds should be supplied point blank period…By Shani-lee Purcell (4 months ago)We have fostered cats from this shelter on Evergreen in Newark and if considering adopting or fostering, visit this shelter to make a fur baby happy with a permanent home. Very well staffed facility and many pets awaiting a loving home!By Pat V (2 months ago)

- Reviews:This review is 6 years too late! We adopted our Zsa Zsa ( formerly Mini Maui from the Hawaiian Collection) and she has filled our lives with joy and laughter every day since. The staff there are warm and caring and I would gladly return to adopt another kitty when the time comes. Thank you for your wonderful fosters. Our little girl was a runt and now she is a happy and healthy young lady! Thank you for all you do for the animals.By Widdershins Productions (4 weeks ago)This place has some incredibly rude and passive aggressive people working there as staff. It’s also quite odd that they still are not open to the public and we have to do drop offs and pick ups outside still. Was a first time foster and they did not provide any guidance or training but were short and curt when I tried to follow-up. My foster cat was literally the sweetest but my goodness these people need to learn how to talk to humans. They spend all day interacting with animals so perhaps that’s the issue. If not for the animals, I would say find another shelter to deal with. Whoever runs or funds this place needs to do a serious overhaul of the people working there.By An Nya (a month ago)Being one of the few places for animal services in the area, we gotta be thankful this place exists! I couldn’t go inside, because the hours are very limited, so that’s why I gave it only 4 stars. Go there and get you a new best friend!By George Horvath (10 months ago)Very good place and very nice costume they gave me a very pretty and kind dogBy Nona Said (3 months ago)Any new environment changes for pets is going to have some major challenges, which will require patience and love. If 1% of you has doubts, do what I did and wait a full week before you make any changes. We had an unbelievable experience the 1st 24-48 hrs. However, I’m pleased to share that my rescue pet has had made himself at home and slowly stealing my heart. I was a basket case when I had to leave him alone to go to the doctor yesterday. Seems he was cool because he knew I was coming back. I’ve also picked up a habit of browsing the chewy site. Most importantly learn the breed before you fall for the cuteness. You’ll thank yourself for researching before deciding. I’m excited about the opportunity to take care of him very well; with minimal spoiling.By Antonio Jones (11 months ago)

So grateful for our experience at Shake a Paw Union. Antonio was helpful and patient every step of the way as we chose what dog would best fit our family. He gave great advice and broke down for us in detail how to care for our new dog which really put any hesitation or nerves at ease. He was so knowledgeable and a wonderful guide to us as first time dog owners. So incredibly happy with our new puppy! Best decision ever!
this review is long over due, I got my Pomeranian puppy at 3 months old & now she is a year and 2 months! She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. She has been a super healthy pup & brought so much joy into me & everyone she has met’s life! Shout out to Charles for helping me name her & helping me with everything I needed. I posted a puppy & a recent photo ♥️
I fell in love and found my furever friend last week with the help of Antonio. From my initial phone call explaining the deposit process to hold the puppy, to allowing me the time to spend with two dogs so I could make the best decision, Antonio was fantastic and patient. He thoroughly explained financing options, walked me through all of the paperwork and discussed diet and a ton of other new puppy advice. I could not recommend him more. Welcome home Bogey!
We have 3 dogs from here that we have gotten over the last 5 years and just had our 1 year gotcha day with our latest this past month.
The whole staff is really great and want to make sure you are getting the right puppy for you. They are well informed and care about all the animals. If a dog is a little high-strung or not going to be great with kids they are very forthcoming. They have always been this way with us.
Before getting our last puppy we looked at another one about 2 months before that had been there for a little while. The staff remembered us and let us sit with the dog. Before we did they said she wasn’t going to be the right fit and she definitely wasn’t. A couple months later we went back and got our newest, he was perfect.
All of our dogs have always left healthy and have never had any issues.
They are really special people.
The service was excellent at Shake a Paw in Union. This is our first puppy! Bryan was so patient with us as we asked to see and interact with several different breeds before we decided on our Cockapoo! Bryan answered all of our questions and addresses out concerns! Our puppy is the best and has been a wonderful addition to our family!
