  1. This was a great beach camp spot! We stayed 2 nights in a 26′ TT. The weather was in the upper 60s and a bit windy, which wasn’t bad as it turns out because the day we left it was still and there were thousands of mosquitos! Beware though, our things started to rust in the short time we were there. Can ride bikes on the sand and drive. Reason for 4 stars was some hoodlums were racing up and down the beach first night we were there at 11:45pm.

  2. This started out to be such a great spot! I got here Christmas Eve and all was quiet and peaceful and the waves sounded lovely.
But the next day, Christmas Day, oh my goodness…
All the quads came in and people, mostly 20s and younger, were racing as fast as they could up-and-down the beach and kicking up sand right outside the doors of everyone on the dune side of the road. So dangerous! It was worrisome to sit outside with all the racing going on. And sitting inside when you’re at the beach is no fun at all. Leaving early, see what else we can find. If we ever decide to come back, it’ll be during the week and definitely not a holiday.

  3. Free camping and easy access roads. Plenty of room on drivable hard pack beach sand for any big rig.

  4. Bolivar Flats was very interesting, if you like bird watching. My grandchildren enjoyed seeing all the different types of local birds. Recommended!

  5. This property owned by Bolivar flats is on a secluded road has 2 covered spots. Owner is very professional and the spot is well maintained. I will definitely be back here

Stay Safe at the Beach: 10 Essential Tips

Here are some safety tips for a holiday at the beach:

  1. Always swim in designated areas. These areas are patrolled by lifeguards who can help you if you get into trouble.
  2. Don’t swim alone. Always have someone with you, especially if you’re not a strong swimmer.
  3. Don’t swim after drinking alcohol. Alcohol can impair your judgment and make it more difficult to swim safely.
  4. Be aware of the tides and currents. Strong currents can quickly pull you out to sea, so it’s important to be aware of them and swim in areas that are protected from strong currents.
  5. Check for rip currents before you go in the water. Rip currents are strong currents that can pull you out to sea. If you see a rip current, swim parallel to the shore to get out of it.
  6. Don’t swim in areas where there are jellyfish or other marine life. Some jellyfish can sting, and others can be dangerous.
  7. Apply sunscreen liberally and often, even on cloudy days. The sun’s rays can be strong even when it’s not sunny, and sunburn can be painful and dangerous.
  8. Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun.
  9. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. It’s easy to get dehydrated in the sun, so make sure you drink plenty of water or other fluids.
  10. Watch your children closely at all times. Children can get into trouble quickly at the beach, so it’s important to watch them closely and keep them within arm’s reach.

Here are some additional tips for staying safe at the beach:

  • Check the weather forecast before you go. If there is a storm coming, it’s best to stay away from the beach.
  • If you are caught in a rip current, don’t panic. Swim parallel to the shore to get out of it.
  • If you see someone who is in trouble, call for help immediately.

By following these tips, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday at the beach.

I visited **Crystal Beach** from Houston on a summer Sunday afternoon and I had a great time. It was easy to get there by bus, car and car ferry, and the beach was clean and beautiful. I enjoyed swimming, sunbathing and crabbing at the beach, and there were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. I also visited the **Our Lady By The Sea Chapel and Catholic Center**, which was a peaceful and serene place to pray and reflect. The only downside was that some of the beaches in the area had high levels of bacteria, so I had to be careful where I went. Overall, I would recommend Crystal Beach to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun getaway from Houston.

We enjoy coming here with the family. Came first time in October and had mostly the whole beach to ourselves. Second time was in July and was much more busy— not to mention hot! Not the most beautiful beach but good for the kids. Lots of crabs to find and decent waves for boggie boarding.

Not bad a East Texas Beach…you won’t believe this, those pictures were from 2023 jeep week. No one was where i was! Beach looked just as CLEAN and nice Sunday as the day it was when I got there Friday. WISH I could say the rest about the beach just a little further down

Great beach parking no pass needed if you go to the left when entering, I dont think they enforce any time limits on parking and camping, it does have trash cans that are emptied regularly
Verizon cell great without a booster
    Some porta johns at entrance
Awesome crowd on weekends with lots of cruising going on.
I am just hanging out enjoying the sound of the waves and watching the ships roll by.

I liked this beach. It is a good place just to go, sit on the shore and relax. It is very easy to access and park your car without a special sticker. It might not be the cleanest beach, but it works to spend a good time with your family and even with your pets.

There are many beach access roads along Bolivar and Crystal Beach. Please clean up after yourself before you leave. There are garbage cans all along the beach. USE THEM. Also note this beach allows long term living. There are many individuals that have long term campers here.

Back in the old days, my friends and I go to this location on a weekend night to hang out and camp in our tents for the night. A great & peaceful place to be for a weekend getaway. I remember one night when a lot of us gathered there and made a chuck wagon pattern of tents circled all around a campfire, where we sat roasting our hot dogs and marshmallows, chatting with each other and telling stories/jokes, and just enjoying our time and fellowship there.
