I placed order for contact lenses with CEC’s optical center, telling them that I needed the contacts immediate as I was out. The employee told me it would be approximately 5 days and could be sent directly to my home. I could have ordered at 1-800- contacts and had them within 2 business days, but prefer to spend my money locally. After two weeks of no contacts, and three calls to Chico Eye Center before I received a call back, I was told the contacts were “out of stock”. No one ever called me to let me know and since they had no estimate of when the contacts would be available, I said I wished to cancel the order. I was told by Chico Eye Center that was impossible. The woman at the optical center told me she would set aside a pair of contacts to hold me through until they were in stock. She asked how soon I could pick them up, I asked how early they opened the following day. She told me 8am and I said I would be there by 8:20 as I had a 9:00 meeting. Chico Eye Center is closed 8-9 on Fridays. The staff who came to the door told me I would have to wait until 9 as the staff who told me to come in wasn’t present. I told the employee I was unable to wait, bit that I was told yesterday the contacts would be on the woman’s desk with my name on them. Finally a different employee was able to pick up the contacts which were set aside, and hand them to me, barely in time to make it to my meeting on time. I won’t be using my very limited VSP with them again as they refuse to cancel my order despite the fact that their supplier is out of stock with no estimate of when they will be available.
The up side of CEC, Dr. Odiante is great. That is why I gave them an extra star.

They lied about my bill multiple times. They stated one price before I went there and I asked multiple times if that was the full amount I would owe they said yes. I paid another price after my visit was finished after that increase I asked the front desk workers multiple times if this was my final bill I was told yes again. Today in my mail another add on to my bill that they said was paid. If you can’t trust the word of the company you shouldn’t do business with them.

Great staff and special kudos to Jocelyn for the extra care and kindness for a 100 year old patient. She explained things carefully and was respectful.

My glasses broke. I substituted old glasses, but they were troubling my eyes. The nurse at Chico Eye Center determined I could put my new lens on the old frames and fixed them quickly. I was so thankful.

I woke in the morning to find my vision so blurry I could not read my phone. Called Reeve/Woods and spoke w/ Kelly Jo (?) She should have her own business teaching others the art of Customer/Patient service (A+). I was given an appointment in only a few hours which was great. The experience with the examination and interaction with the doctor were less stellar in my humble opinion. It’s obvious that Dr Woods knows his specialty but he was in so quickly after the assistant did the workup I couldn’t keep up nor could my my wife. I was given paperwork for labs, told I would be having additional medical testing and see him at a later date. Frankly I don’t know what he is looking for. Cataracts, Glaucoma? I know there was.is a perceived issue with oxygen yet to be determined but frankly I was scared when I left. At 71 years old and a retired executive with a staff of over 500 nothing scares me with the exception of hurried medical care. This experience did. I felt the time spent with me was greatly lacking and I know nothing more today than I did on the first visit. Yes, tests are necessary for any diagnosis. However, give the patient a moment to take a breath and give them a bit more information on what you are looking for and based on results what would be possible options to remedy the issue/problem. Writing reviews is a rarity for me. It’s either exceptional or it is not. All medical should be exceptional. Period. Sadly this was not and my wife and I are considering other options/facilities. I have had a number of serious and life altering events in the last 24 months all due to Dr mistakes. I don’t care about speed and how quickly patients can be moved in, moved out in a tornado atmosphere. There was a new patient in the exam room less than 30 seconds after I left and was standing at checkout.
I believe a bit more due diligence is necessary on my part before I make an informed decision on which route I choose to take. I take no pleasure in writing a less than optimum review but felt my interaction warranted comment.

The entire staff was very professional as well as knowledgeable. The equipment used during the exam was state of the art; some of which I had never seen before. The doctor was upbeat and explained my current eye health in terms which I could easily understand. He presented my options and I was scheduled for the next step. I was extremely pleased with my experience. I highly recommend this office.

The Staff was very Friendly and Courteous. Shannon did a Great Job of explaining questions I had about Cataract surgery and the tests that she gave me. The Office was very clean and Professional… A Nice environment. The doctor was Very Kind and answered all my questions. I would recommend to others.

Super nice and clean facility and everyone was so polite and friendly. It took about an hour for my full appointment (including checking in, wait time, assessment, refraction, and doctor visit) but the whole experience was pleasant and comfortable. Doctor is very kind and answered ALL my questions and helped me make the best decisions for my care.

Dr. Woods and his staff are very professional, knowledgeable and always explain everything that will happen for each test and necessary surgery details so that I understand what will take place. I was not expecting to have surgery in 10 days. Each person I spoke with identified themselves and made me feel safe and in good hands. I very happy with Dr. Woods and his team of professionals.

A belated review to say thanks! I was travelling and lost a nose pad for my OVVO glasses. I called up Family Eye Care and they said that they had the part! Upon arriving I was immediately helped and they replaced the nose pad for free! A class act and the best in town. This happened in late Feb, almost a year ago, but the impact of this small act of kindness resonates long after.

LOVE the whole business and the people in it. Truly amazing establishment. The only reason for 4 stars is it took over 2 weeks to get my glasses which to me is unheard of. Very disappointing when you’re waiting to see. Other than that, switching to Family Eye was the best decision ever!

Simply the best! I recently moved to Tennessee, and they have been so supportive in my transition, sending medical records as needed. Best in Chico, by far.

This is the best place I have been to get my eyes fixed up. You get to sit down with Dr. Clarke and talk about your options. I feel like this is the best in Chico. I moved over from Chico Eye Center. At Chico Eye Center they don’t treat you like a person. In fact I don’t think I have seen the same person over there twice. I highly recommend Family Eye Care.

I called for my first appointment in 2 years and I was able to be seen early the next morning due to a cancelation. So that’s star#1. Star#2: they have a new eye imaging machine that basically negates the need for dilation. At least for me Anyway. So that’s great since I drive. Stars 3, 4 and 5+: I had a lot of money saved and I knew I wanted good frames with the best possible lenses. So I was pretty against accepting the free medi-cal set. However I was urged to accept that on the bonus of 50% off a second pair. So instead of having to pay nearly a thousand dollars for the glasses that I wanted. I paid just under 500$ instead. I left pretty happy with myself and happy they did so well and were so fast with my new prescription. Now it’s just the waiting game for the new eye wear which will be fine. It’ll be a short wait for the set I paid cash for.

Very quick and easy, professional service, and Dr. Pennington listened and helped me with my difficult contact lens prescription. Glasses fitting was painless and there were great frame options with reasonable prices. I highly recommend Chico Vision Care!

The receptionist that helped me after the appointment was super rude, dismissive, removed her mask when speaking, and my appointment cost $60 more than I had anticipated. (The initial charge was around $80 if I remember correctly. It was over $60 after using what was left on my benefits card, and I had planned on a $25 copay) They do not make it clear that the retina scan is not optional as it’s an extra cost (though I really think if you ask NOT to have something done, they should accept that request). They let you know that there is an extra $10 for a retina scan, however, it sounds like it is an option, not required. The receptionist told me I was wrong and that my insurance doesn’t cover contact exams, I was almost in tears since I just didn’t have the money for the excess (on top of being stressed because I was uncomfortable the entire appointment). Later, the receptionist called me to let me know I was indeed correct, and that my insurance did in fact cover the exam. No apology, nothing. Just “this is your new balance, make sure you pay it when you come get your trial lenses”. Needless to say, I will be paying my bill on payday and definitely not returning there. If they were open outside of my work hours I would have come in already, but seeing as they are less than accommodating, I’ll just have to wait until I can take off a couple hours early so I can make it there in time. If y’all had correctly charged me and believed me about my insurance, you would have been paid right then and there.

I’ve been going here for a number of years. I went in last year when covid started and they were horribly rude. With the mask the test screen was fogged up and he wouldn’t let me take off the mask. So my eye exam was not correct. Picking up my glasses they wouldn’t let me inside. It was a horrible experience and very expensive. I’ll never go back.

Doctors might be great but optical Dept is horrible. My $800 dollar coach Sunglasses were damaged by them and extremely unfashionable to say the least. Bent like the number 7 wrapped in crinkly thick clear plastic and this clear visible nose pieces. They said my head size made that happen but the ones on the floor fit perfectly. They didn’t call or help at all. I filed a complaint with the manufacturer myself and won. I’ve never done this myself before and missed the part to take my lenses. So basically I have an extremely nice pair of coach glasses that I can not see with! They never returned my calls and Jessica was always out sick when I called but did and said whatever I needed to hear the two times I went in just to get me to leave feeling hope.
BEWARE if you don’t have LOTS of money to literally just throw in the trash! I’m sticking with online cheap ones or readers now because I can’t afford designer anymore because of them!

For those looking for a quick review. This is the best eye care you’ll get. Go here!! Now, for those wanting the story, read along.

On our family Christmas visit, my need for contacts and glasses replacement was in high demand. I couldn’t wait for my appointment back home in a month. My bride and I began the impossible task of finding a center that was open two days before Christmas; was taking appointments; and would take our insurance. After exhausting the entire list for Redding, we took to Chico and found hope. All three impossibilities were met without hesitation.
The office had the most amazing elves adorned in sweaters. Kindness and smiles everywhere. And the place was full of patients. Not one person upset, frustrated, or angry during their waiting. That’s a miracle all by itself. Sage was our first contact. She was the sweetest elf!! That girl is the personification of kindness. I was taken back by Shelby for my testing. Adorned in tasteful ink and a generous smile, she was professional, kind, and sweet. We need to start a Go Fund Me for her to get a real Shelby. Finally, when the doctor took to my care, he was smooth, chill, and kind. He assured me I would see better and enjoy the holidays. What he said that really struck me was this, “We are a practice that won’t turn you away. We will squeeze you in and get you taken care of. It’s who we are.” This is the absolute best care I have ever received and wished more practices followed the model.

I have been a patient of North Valley Eye Care for almost 5 years and would highly recommend their office. The staff is friendly, professional and personable. The doctors truly listen to your vision concerns and does preventative testing. The optical selection is fantastic, they have Ray Ban, Michael Kors, Coach and Kate Spade just to name a few. I was quoted 2 weeks for my glasses and a week after placing my order I received a call that my glasses were ready. I get a lot of compliments on my Kate Spade gold glitter glasses!

The staff is awesome, they are compassionate and very knowledgeable in their area. The doctors take their time with you so you feel your concerns are met and you understand your treatment plan, whatever it might be. Plus, their Optical is amazing! So much to choose from. I really recommend North Valley Eye Care for anyone who wants the best for their eyes and peace of mind.

I have been going to North Valley Eye Care for 9 years and I could not be happier!!! The doctors are outstanding! Both of my parents had their cataract surgery from Dr. Barthelow (Dr. B) and my entire family has had many “eye” issues over the years. Every time they handle things with the utmost care and experience. The Optical dept. has a great selection and I am always happy with my glasses. They are a busy office and I know why because they are the best!!! I would recommend North Valley Eye Care to anyone!
