What a gorgeous place to shop! The beauty and luxury concessions look immaculate. I visited the men’s department and was really pleased with the selection of tailoring, streetwear and upmarket casual clothing. Everything was clean and organised too! Kudos goes out to the everyone in the Men’s footwear department (Lin especially) with her charming, friendly and helpful service. I felt comfortable and looked after but not pressured or unattended which I appreciate. I visited twice and am satisfied with my purchases. Keep up the good work!!
I purchased De Marly Carlisle perfume. One of the staff (Anna) was very helpful and lovely. She assisted me patiently to find my favorite scent 😊
I love David Jones and always interested to see what changes they make to store layout and offerings. But note maybe it’s an old fashioned thing but I’ve always felt you need to look your best when entering!
I came to David Jones today looking gifts for my daughter for Christmas, spent an hour wandering around until I met a little Hellen, who is working at Witchery. She was amazing and lovely assisting me the whole time.
TL;DR: it’s a nice, large-in-Australia department store. Don’t expect online prices because, well, it’s a nice department store.
So. How does one review a department store, when the departments vary in quality? Let’s try.
On one hand, whenever I enter a department store nowadays, a part of me thinks “why do these things exist anymore?”. Then I use them and remember.
The stylist service and that department is brilliant. With unhurried professional guidance I got multiple good looks that I could have spent five weeks hunting for by myself otherwise. Plenty of stuff was on sale so the prices were reasonable.
Other departments don’t quite reach that brilliance. The service I got on perfumes was chirpy but completely clueless about the products and generally unhelpful while very hard trying to he helpful.
The price match promise of David Jones is also not a genuine one – it’s basically only a price match to Myers. Anything else is cleverly excluded in the T&C’s, and for some stuff that sometimes incredible premium is just not justified by the service.
It’s as close to a one-stop shop as you can get in the city, but that doesn’t mean it works for everyone or is always a good experience. Use judiciously and in moderation.
